Everyone ...Another point..related to your comments. Everyone has heard of Pullman of railroad fame. When reading about him a few years ago I came across reference to George Pullman's other great contribution, not so well known. In 1860 he was one of a consortium of engineers that literally raised Chicago, jacked up inch by inch, out of the bog on which it was built. It was an extraordinary project, and anyone interested should read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raising_of_ChicagoNigel Aspdin (Derby, UK)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11287696605570389587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452234259074820196.post-32126239282678103052013-04-20T06:30:53.808-07:002013-04-20T06:30:53.808-07:00Well I HAVE walked Chicago...at least...on Streetv...Well I HAVE walked Chicago...at least...on Streetview....when I worked out it was Chicago, and probably a bridge (the barrier and special traffic lights) I then had to cross every bridge, both ways, to check them out, and I never realised how quaint it was with each street having its own bridge across the river. Unfortunately I started at midnight with the most southerly bridge and worked north then east. What a shame it was about the last bridge...I did not get to bed until 2 am!!.... but was pleased to stand outside the Wrigley building, and to read about that.Nigel Aspdin (Derby, UK)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11287696605570389587noreply@blogger.com
