Thematic Photographic 211 Weathered and Worn

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

WEATHERED AND WORN

Carmi's theme this week could amount to multiple posts.  There are numerous avenues one could take with "weathered and worn" even people become weathered and worn as well.

Carmi mentioned, "We tend to forget about the things that we're leaving behind"  mostly in the process, of moving on to newer and better things.

Once upon a time there was an old wagon.
Renewing that old useful thing for showy display
makes perfect sense for those
weathered and worn things of yesterday.

Those were the days my friend when you graced the road

and trees weren't pushing through your bumper.

Just tonight I stood before your boat
and in the glass I saw a strange reflection
of you pushing away from shore long ago.

Through the trees there came familiar laughter of times gone by.
My father's boat - hasn't seen a body of water since he left us.

Here's a project that my youngest son
once had
starry visions of repairing a blown engine!

Back in those high school days he dreamed of all the great things this red
hot car might do!

So many trees, so many fallen leaves, not just ours but all around town
they are weathered and worn
simply stressed out from not enough of
winter's moisture and far too many hot and dry days of summer
that their leaves have given up the struggle and fallen
before their time.

Like sister, like brother or should it be reversed?
Below is a project car of ours that my daughter
planned on bringing out of it's
weathered and worn stage.
Those were the days of her very young childhood
dreams for when she grew up....
La la la la.....

Yes, those were the days my friend.....we thought they'd never end......

We'd live the life we choose, but did this sad little left behind
snowmobile of past snow wonders
really dream of moss growing on it?

Oh my friend we're older but obviously not wiser.

So once upon a time there was a tavern,
where we used to raise a glass or two-
remember how we laughed away the hours-
and dreamed of all the great things we would do?

Well there's no time like the present-that taverns closed but all those dreams have weathered and worn long enough. Let's make those dreams come true.

So are you excited to view more
or post your own?

Wow. Trees growing through the bumper. That really IS something. (And it looks a bit like one of Max's cars.)

I'm closing my eyes and imagining the wagon full of daisies. And your dad smiling from his (now flying) boat. And the engines of every car roaring and going and going. Love the old wheels ;-)

Delicious photos, good framing, I like nature imposes.

What an amazing collection of shots you have shared this week with Carmi and his friends.

I agree this week will require multiple post.

I will refrain from naming a favorite shot because it would be a battle to choose just one.

Oh I like the old wagon; that really is a project ripe for renovation I think. "Those were the Days" - just about the first single I ever bought.

I love that wagon and angel!. The red car that is almost submerged in that grass is a striking photo.

The cars are what they are, but the wagon might look nice full of plants?

Lovely photos, Karen.

It always amazes me how beautiful things are, in even their weathered and worn look. Some things are enhanced by their age! Just like a good wine and us! Right!

Magalay- I hear that too!

Little Nell - It's one of my favorite songs. I had it playing in the background when I made this post!

Strange all these broken and old machines. Great pictures but is this in the nature?

Greetings,

Wonder why it is that I like the photos of the cars so much. There's something so poignant about cars with plants growing out of them.

Fun! I have some picture of trees growing through cars, I guess you could say! I might post them this week too, but they are just trees in rusty cars, not the fun stories your pics have :)

Wonderful set of photos, the boat one made me laugh, it looks like it's up in the trees. And, of course, the old cars intrigued me.

What a fun and inspirational theme packed with cherished memories. I attended a wedding at a private residence last week, and the mother of the bride had filled her kids' childhood shoes with flowers. Talk about cute!!!

I don't know how you do it time after time, Karen - fantastic photos, great commentaries - you are so talented.

My gardens too small to hold all these treasures but at a push I could make room for that glorious wagon.

Alexia- You are too kind. I thank you from the bottom of my heart! :)

karen, your dad's old boat looks like it's perched UP A TREE!!!

love all your weathered and worn things...and your words in between...just bring everything together!!

i like that old wagon!! i think i'd put that up by the front fence...and fill it with flowers! (i used to have an OLD bath tub up there...with plants in it...and someone actually STOLE it!! and it was VERY HEAVY!!)

Karen, your photos are so wonderful and soooo nostalgic!

I'm feeling weathered and worn, after unpacking a gazillion boxes. I would scream and hide if someone tried to photograph me right now!!!

You always take a basic theme and raise it to a remarkable level, Karen. Every photo, every vignette makes us think. Now I'll go mull over what might have been...so much to ponder. Thanks for pushing us in this much-needed direction.
