Thematic Photographic - #308 Vegetation

Did it come from the earth?  Did it grow from seeds? Or from a branch?  That's what Carmi is challenging us with this week.

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

So Vegetation it is.

Okay, how about did it grow after being cut off from the top of a pineapple?  Sounds really vegetation like to me.

Yes it did!  At first it looked a bit sad, but it's growing well from my greenhouse right now.

Video (3:36) on growing your own here.  Worth watching, and totally worth planting.  As the video mentions, I will be bagging mine with an apple soon.  The children's project book where I originally discovered this idea, described that it would eventually grow a pineapple in the center.  The apple on top and covered with a bag overnight, will speed up the process.

After trying this method out, (yes at home) at Bachman's I saw this plant (already growing a new pineapple) so, this past Easter, Peter Rabbit brought my daughters one of these as well.

From my daughter-in-law's deck- The top is the new pineapple growing out of the original plant.  Neat right?

As for this veggie, not so sure where you'd say he grew, or fell from!  He's just so darn cute he had to play along too.  Which by the way is what you should do too!  Bring your vegetation to Carmi's Thematic Photographic party here.

Very nice!

I have grown mangoes and avocado plants from the pits. Haven't tried using the top of a pineapple...yet...

This is such a neat post Karen. Seeing the pineapple grow must be fun. Love Mr. Corn also.

Oh my gosh....y'know funny thing....I cut off the top of the pineapple and took it outdoors and planted it in th ground. You reminded me to go check mine and the progress [or not so much]...it's been way too hot to be outdoors much these days, I'll check it out soon.

Yours is doing so well!! I'm impressed.

Cool idea! Lately our supermarket has been selling pineapples with the leaves already trimmed off :( Maybe I'll find one somewhere else.

Love them! Didn't know you could grow pineapples from tops! Now I will have to try it! Great shots, Karen!

This is right up my alley (I like experimenting with plants, although most of them don't end well). Today I've bought a 'baby pineapple' (a small one) at the local grocery store, I'll let you know the results in a year!
