Saturday Centus - Surprise! I'm pregnant!
Welcome to another Saturday Centus
Where Jenny from "Off on my tangent" has given us quite a momentous prompt today! "Surprise! I'm pregnant?" Really, you are? Oh no I'm being silly... we all are today! ...well sort of, since it's this week's prompt.....!
Rules for this week are, no more than 100 + 3 (for the prompt)=103 words, and we may doll it up with photos, and any style of writing. Thank you Jenny for not making it 6 words only....!
Here is my prompt
“Surprise! I’m pregnant!” Or, “Is it a pregnant spaceship?” are commonly heard after seeing the Jacob Harder house. Being an architectural nut I had to see for myself; even after hearing a fire destroyed it.
Seriously, only an architectural genius could have designed this magnum opus residence; for the entire world to study its faded-pea-green, fish-scale-like shingles, and bulging framework that no other circular dwelling could ever match. Everyone at the local café buzzed about its blueprint being of celestial design.
My anticipation surmounted as the GPS commands stopped at 207 N. 8th Street. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw........
The Jacob Harder House was standing before me.....
Bruce Goff, (fantasy?) architect- B. 1904 - D. 1982.
Yes! It still stands today! Swelling in places just like they said it did and...
Maybe it being a "Spaceship" isn't such a silly idea....
and I think I see where....the idea of a house appearing pregnant might not be too far off either...
So thank goodness a fire did not destroy the Jacob Harder House, and just to mention it is a private residence, even if it is the strangest house not just on the block but quite possibly in all of southern Minnesota!
If you feel like playing along or just want to see some other posts go here

That is one weird house! Great pictures of it though.
Max- I know, and I should have driven through the alley because checking it out on google the back is even cooler than the front...now I have to go back, someday....on my drive back tonight I came across a Corvette Show....I took one picture of a 1966 ? Vet, I really only like the older ones...it was a worth while trip....!
wonderful take on the prompt Karen, and oh my, what an interesting house ... how fabulous it must be to see it in person!
that is just too cool!!!! what an imagination that Jacob Harder (or Bruce, his architect?) guy has!! wow!! i'd love to see it in person. i think this house should be perched on top of a hill somewhere...or maybe coming OUT of the hillside...
and YOU...what a creative idea for "Surprise! i'm pregnant!" haha!!
I love it, Karen!. Unusual architecture- love the clean lines.. its simple and unique.
Kalei's (Chrissy) Yes it's even cooler on the other side, and complete with a tuck under garage, I have to go back again for more photos. I think you'd enjoy other works by Bruce Goff, and may even know of some!
Laura-I know, and at first I thought it may have been destroyed so imagine how excited I really was seeing it just waiting there! I stumbled across this from one of Minnesota's Off The Beaten Path...!
A pregnant house. Who knew? This is great.
Namaste..........cj
interting! The house the story! WOW!
I dont think I could write this weeks prompt. Great job!
Blessings
I've never heard of this so thanks for pointing it out. I can certainly see the attraction and I'd love to take a look around. I wonder what it's like to live in?
Fantastic! I love what you did with your prompt, odd looking house I must say though!
My guess is that this post title will garner many views over time. In fact, it may even be one of your top-viewed posts. Let us know in a few months if it's catching lots of views, okay? ;)
This is a refreshing change...It does look fat in the right places....intriguing photos. Well done with the prompt!!
thats a pretty cool house
Pregnant or not, that is a strange house. And I don’t know about ‘clean lines’ it’s bizarre. I wonder what it’s like inside, or what it would be like to live in it. We do appreciate you posting the weird and wonderful Karen!
thanks for showing us this amazing house!

Wow, what an amazing design! I've always been amazed by the work of architects who could see beyond the mundane. Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Moshe Safdie...I've made conscious pilgrimages to see their work, and I've always felt so humble when standing next to them.
I love how you've shared this with us, Karen. Next time I'm in MN, I think I'm going for a drive!
Such an interesting post! It does look like a pregnant spaceship. really amazing. And what a great idea to post it for this Centus. laurie @ Battling My Inner Critic
Well, this hit close to home since my daughter surprised me with the news last January that she was pregnant, and my foster daughter surprised me with the same news in February! Babies will be here soon!
Unbelievable. And here I thought I was going to get to say congratulations to you!!!
Love how you fit the house into this prompt. Perfect.

What a neat and different link! I loved where you took this. I'm fascinated by that architecture. How in the world did they ever put shingles on that shape?
Really cool link! Thanks for sharing it.
