Alphabe-Thursday's Letter C

THIS IS A ALPHABE-THURSDAY POST..... featuring the letter C!

My " C " letter for this round is   "camino real"

camino real (kah-mee-naw-Re-ahl) noun, plural caminos reales Spanish-and is
a main road: highway, origin literally, royal road.

Sometimes there's only one main road leading to and from one place....

Spring Mountain Ranch, in Red Rock Canyon, outside Las Vegas, Nevada....people still speculate just how many times the last owner, Mr. Howard Hughes actually used this camino real or main road.....

Or the camino real can be a one way road circling through the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area......

Inside Red Rock Canyon, outside Las Vegas, Nevada...camino real (literally) also called royal road is most notable in the California, Texas, and New Mexico areas of the American Southwest, and elsewhere that predate the automobile age, and now many are popular tourist itineraries.

Mural of Route 66, Truxton, Arizona  artwork by Sandy Rusnka, and photo courtesy of The Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Division Washington D.C.
a quite famous camino real!

Camino real, or main road, also known as camino real, are often not just used for automobile traffic.....

Why did the turkey cross the road anyway?

All roads show the way to somewhere......

This photo was taken in the center of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.  Can you see the Minneapolis Metro Dome?  Or the Weisman Art Museum?

Camino real or main roads....lead us to places.......
we may never see, if not for our journey there.......

On the left is the Weisman Art Museum, and downtown Minneapolis is in the background.

I've been to Red Rocks many times and written a post on climbing Turtle Head there.

Sage...I just can't ever spend enough time in Red Rock Canyon...we took my son-in-law there for the first time ever and he used to live in California and came to Vegas often as a kid with his parents...but he never saw this place! Now he too is a big fan....did you ever eat at the restaurant in Bonnie Springs? If not you must!

One popular vehicle in the 60's and 70's was the Chevrolet El Camino. Thank you for enlightening me to the meaning of it's name.
Also loved the Route 66 mural. I've been dying to get the opportunity (time) to just take off and ride along that famous camino real for as far as I can stand it.
Great pictures!

I love Red Rock - after working a trade show in Vegas for a week, I spent a day hiking the trails. Perfect for decompressing!

Max- I know! I saw a video clip about how they have revived parts of Route 66 and it's like going back in time! I so want to do that trip too! Also if you get a chance I posted an old photo from Salt Lake City on my Sepia post!

Karen, this was really interesting. I've been to and through Las Vegas so many times but have never stopped or even heard of that place! It looks lovely...and oasis in the desert.

And I never thought of what this phrase even meant before, although now I suspect I will associate it with turkeys when I read of it next! ha!

Thanks for a fun and fascinating link for the letter C.

A+
