Sepia Saturday 130 - 16 June 2012

SEPIA SATURDAY

The waving of our flag.......

In honor of  "Flag Day" today in America.
June 14th our official flag day!

This is an early post for me, since I am also going out of town.  Alan our Sepia Saturday creator, is officially on holiday as well, and has turned his mighty ship over to Marilyn until his return.  In honor of Marilyn's first sailing, I couldn't sink ship, so early it is!

I've taken the theme of Farewell (seems fitting!) but as you'll see by checking other Sepia posts there are many themes possible!

When it comes to farewells there are many as well.

"Farewell, fair cruelty."  - William Shakespeare

As in this Farewell Caress, a painting reflecting the beautiful horse, Princess being fed just before the man outside the stall (the new owner) will be taking her away.  Most certainly a very tender moment for the young woman resting her head against Princess.  It appears the dog may be just as sad.  I'm not so sure about the cat.

"Why does it take a minute to say hello, and forever to say good-bye, farewell, Ciao, Adieux or Salut!?"

"The return makes one love the farewell!"  - Alfred de Musset

Although, his grip appears quite tight, wouldn't you say?

Perhaps he's saying, "Promise me this, you will wait for me?"

Nothing was written on the photo, so date and relationship are a mystery.

But his intent, quite obvious!
All we know, is that he's apparently from the 7th Reg't.

From somewhere out on the dusty trail where tumbleweeds flow free.......

Too bad Alan is away, because I believe he's a fan of this actress, Mary Pickford who is gathered with other actors from their production "Rags" as they bid farewell as the film is completed! Dated 1915.  Rags farewell to the west, a western.

"The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may be the beginning."
- Ivy Baker Priest

When is a kiss,  just a kiss?

"There's a line between love and fascination
That's hard to see on an evening such as this,
For they both give the very same sensation
When you're lost in the magic of a kiss."
- Ned Washington from the song
"My Foolish Heart"

A great enormous THANK-YOU Marilyn for keeping Sepia Saturday up and running!

Karen, I’m so glad you decided to join in before your trip. Sepia Saturday just wouldn’t be the same without your lovely mix of words and pictures. I’m fascinated by the soldier with the firm grip. Woe betide her should she fall into someone else’s grasp whilst he is away!

The Farewell Caress picture made this post for me and I see what you mean about the cat.
One thing intrigues me and that's where do you find all the quotes every week.

I love your photos, the second one is so touching, even the cat has to get in there! Excellent post and excellent word choices. I choose not to say goodbye, I say see ya later! Goodbye is so final in it's own way.

Cheers, have an excellent vacation and see you when you return!

Wonderful photos, and thanks for reminding me about Flag Day! Ooops, might have posted something.

In that one farewell photo, he does seem to be a little overbearing.

Have fun wherever you're going.

Amazing pictures, certainly the second one with the lady and the horse.

Greetings,

Movie westerns are so amusing -- the cowboys are always much cleaner and their clothes less ragged than photos of the real deal. As always, your collection of photos and quotes always give us so much to ponder.

I sure hope the gripped girl decided against the gripper. He's way too controlling.

Karen; wonderful all the adieu's pictures; sad to say goodbye to a beloved horse.
Soldiers goodbyes from their sweethearts must have been very hard too. Welcome hellos are much better! Enjoyed your post very much. Have a lovely holiday.

Hi Karen! Lovely post ... I hope that you are having a great time on your trip.

That lady with the soldier looks quite pregnant to me. He might be saying that he regrets that he will miss the birth and wondering how old the baby will be when he gets to finally see it. She may be thinking, don't die in battle husband, and Lord, I hate war. I LOVE that picture; it makes a great writing prompt and spurs my imagination.

A great sentimental mix and nicely bound by your choice of words.

That grips looks a bit tight and the look on his face is threatening to me.

To some you just want to say "Good riddance" and they're usually the ones it's easy to say goodbye to.

It's the ones who mean something who make it hard to utter the word. I do a lot of slouching, stubbing the ground with my toe, wary of the moment to come.

You've captured all of it with your images.

These are good ones, each with its own story.
I think the soldier was the dominating kind, bet she didn't wait for him.
