SEPIA SATURDAY

Big business - the gossip mill, early in the morning.  But who's pushing baby?

Welcome back Alan, and it's wonderful to have you back for this week's theme!  Although, Marilyn (Little Nell) has done a perfectly awesome job of keeping your blog afloat!
Our theme is one I know by sight but I had no idea what a pram is!

Thank goodness for photos.  Over here, the most frequently used term is stroller, or baby carriage, and often baby stroller.  Today it seems that not just babies go for rides, but they actually sell strollers for dogs and cats as well.  So when I found this photo I had to share it!

I'm so purr-fectly beautiful in my stylish stroller and bonnie bonnet!

One of my most favorite poems about babies and has hung on my wall until I loaned it away - will fit nicely here today.  The poem is the work of Ruth Hulburt Hamilton.

Mother, O mother, come shake out your cloth,
empty the dustpan, poison the moth

Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?

Here she is!

Ha! ha! I just had to add this photo for this line. Even though it's not Sepia!

She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue.
Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby too.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due.
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew.

And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo

But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby too.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.

and grow up and leave home all too soon!

First, you'll see them off in the park with make-believe babies of their own
before they grow up and go off on their own!

So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep!

Karen, such an entertaining post. All the prams on show with poem as well.
It is also interesting the different meanings in the English language. I think perambulator is such a mouthful. Pram is just right, " bring the pram" put the perambulator away..as your poem says, Mum is always busy. Anyway we called it a pous pous from poussoir.
SWL has four official languages, German, Italian, French and Rumansch. We used the French one. We also spoke high German, a German dialect, Some Italian and I went to school where was Rumansch spoken, so I had to put up with a few different words all the time.

Enjoyed the poem and the pictures fit it perfectly. The pic of the cat in the stroller was too funny!

A display of prams, and yet, mention of empty nest...
Feeling nostalgic lately?!?

A lovely and fun post. Those first two ladies certainly look deep in thought.

I like the cat picture, but most cats would not stay in a stroller.

Very entertaining post, Karen, and such great pictures. I especially like the first one - the hand gestures say so much, and I notice the lady on the right has seamed stockings on. Pram Kitty seems quite happy - mine would be less cooperative :-) Jo

Thank you for the compliment Karen. As usual you have entertained us with your wonderful mix of words and pictures in this reminder of the transcience of childhood.

Imagespast- That's so funny, I never even noticed her socks (until you enlarge the photo) I wonder what ever happend to that style of stocking anyway!

Fun from start to finish, Karen. The chaotic kitchen needs a lot of studying to pick up all that's going on. The dogs I know would be more interested inthe kid's chocolate cake, the bowl could wait.

Oh my gosh, Karen, I LOVE THIS!!! You are inspiring. I can't believe how high up that one buggy is, with those huge wheels, but the mama wouldn't need to bend down far to push it around.

Thanks for your hard work on this post.

I MUST have one of those strollers for my cat! I'm not sure how much he would appreciate it but never mind.
