Thematic Photographic - 225 - Shadows

SHADOWS

To think of shadows is a serious thing.
 - Victor Hugo

Carmi, makes an excellent point about shadows "not being the easiest optical phenomena to shoot."

For instance, I played with the shadow of this statue.
I'm pleased, with how her shadow, appears as though it's ready to get up and move on.

"In every shadow there is light."

My next photo, both the statue and the shadow never pleased me, and I'm surprised I haven't deleted it yet.

I guess it's my weakness for dogs, that keeps me from erasing it.

As you can see, I kept getting in the way of this picture.

"Keep your face always toward the sunshine, and shadows will fall behind you."
-Walt Whitman

Really?

It seems for me, more often than not, I catch many welcomed shadows in my nature scenes.  They just seem to double the beauty for me.

Believe it or not, this was taken outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

This was taken in my backyard.

This is another photo that screams delete, delete, please let me go!  Although, my point was the Monarch, and it works.  Again, I felt the shadows improved the rest of the photo.
What do you think?

The monarch is the king (or queen).

That is one beautiful butterfly shot! Wish we had butterflies like that over here!

I couldn't delete that puppy, either.

Ha, the statue and the shadow photo, that you don't like, is one that i DO like. Its because the shadow looks as if it is kissing something else - an extra dimension to the piece

Strange how we see different things in shapes and shadows. (Mr. Rorschach thought of that first I suppose):D

Cute statues, with the shadows extending the art work onto the wall and ground. Good shots!

I like the Las Vegas one - I had to look at it for a while to appreciate the intricacy of it.

The monarch is glorious :)

These are neat, Karen. I used to be faithful to Shadow Shot Sunday for a long, long time. It is fun to keep an eye out for shadows, and I enjoyed capturing them. I will check out Carmi's blog again. I have participated in the Reflections meme over there before.

I'm glad you saved those great photos, Karen!
After reading Jenny's comment, I had to scroll back to see those kissing shadows, love this photo!
Have you a great weekend.

Why does it scream 'delete'? You could crop it a bit to focus on the Monarch, it's a beautiful insekt. The game of light and shadows make photos much more interesting. The ducks don't seem that interested in gambling...

Love that Walt Whitman quote. Perhaps it doesn't apply to photography!

it's funny...i know just what you're saying about our own shadows getting in the way sometimes...i go through the same thing...moving around a 'subject, trying to get my shadow to retreat! no luck...it's stuck to me! ha!

I think of the "other" in literature. There is a shadow archetype, and often it represents an alter ego. Great post!

Karen your photos are awesome, loving the first one on this end! What's it with the first photo you post and me today? Maybe that's the first attention grabber? lol Either way what I was going to mention to you is what I do with unwanted shadows is put a vintage frame around the subject, or find a way to enhance the subject I'm focusing on, confuse the eye to look straight at the subject and the shadow disappears... sort of! lol

Have a wonderful day!
