Simply, Oscar

Dear Mr. Academy Award of Merit,

I certainly mean no disrespect by this post, merely results and a show worthy of all it's expenses.

Maybe next year.

The Academy Awards has always been something you like or dislike.

Meryl Streep with Daniel Day-Lewis as he wins Best Actor for playing Lincoln.

These performers aren't just merely actors, receiving big bucks.  They are the heartbeat of the movies we long to see, and cheer them on as they pour out their heart and soul to make it happen.

Jennifer Lawrence wins Best Actress in Silver Linings Playbook.

I'm so happy I saw this movie in the theater.  My first thought was, ah wait for the DVD.

Just like the extremely moving movie, Safe Haven.  Treat yourself before the DVD!

I don't wish to sound bitter, but was that really the Academy Awards show for 2013?

REALLY?

I'm guessing these excited fans saw LOTS of STARS in all their glory.

Styling with her puppy purse!

Quvenzhane Wallis, known for her leading roll as Hushpuppy in Beasts of the Southern Wild.
A couple of her famous quotes are- "If I have to be fierce, I'll be fierce" and "Who the man?"

Okay, yes I admit it.  I may not be in the running for Oscar, but every year I get giddy about the show.  But every year once it's over I ask myself why do I bother?  This year more than ever.  This doesn't mean I didn't approve of all the winnings.

We were delighted by the finest of singing, so much so, you almost forgot this was a ceremony for movies.

But then the sinister theme music from

JAWS!

surprised us all every time the orchestra got a bit aggressive while forcing the winners off the stage in mid sentence.

But honestly Dear Academy Award Trustees, how does an award show that celebrates the human side of those performing a labor of love, even begin to feel a sense of place, and become lost in the many magical imaginations running wild and free with the theme from Jaws penetrating the room?

Our thanks to those who captured real live Oscar moments to share with us later.

I  really want to know your thoughts about the 2013 Academy Awards, that was officially re-branded as of February 20, 2013 as simply, The Oscars.

If you're wondering yes, I left the comment below on today's Academy Award Blogathon.  It's still going on.

Once again I'm wishing everyone who had a say in the making of this year's Academy Awards would step back and let US the PEOPLE who go out and buy movie tickets, be in charge for at least one year.  Instead of hosting a Rag-Blogathon that merely throws sticks-and-stones (more waste of time) why not put a vote out here for a trial Academy Awards that sticks to stars and their movies, period?

Here's that link.

I understand there are so many people involved in the Academy Awards, like- The 2012-2013 Academy has 9 Board of Trustees, 5 of them are officers.

I don't know how you all feel, I'm hoping you'll share your feelings here, in my comments.   Am I the only one that feels I threw away valuable minutes watching last night's show?  I never had that pumped up feeling.
I wanted to see less of the host, and more of our favorite stars, especially those in the audience.

I'm hoping the Trustees will not only step out of the thinking box, but throw the darn box away.   Everyone knows that today sets the 2014 Oscars in motion, so let's do this thing right.

Luckily, the show is broadcast live here - which means it begins at 2.00 pm on Monday afternoon.

Therefore, I'm at work - and even if I wasn't, I wouldn't be watching :)

First of all, I did not like the host or rather the script he was given to regurgitate...The format has changed- as they indicated.. more musical than 'business at hand'... I will say that when the camera panned to Kidman and her hubby I agree w/their pained and embarrassed looks.. that was when the man on stage was mentioning someone who had financial issues and was cut off by the music... the music seemed a bit rude, then again they were all told to limit their acceptance speech.. Every year no matter what awards show it is, the quality seems to get worse...

I don't even remember the last time I watched the Oscars to be honest, I don't stay current on what's in the theaters, who is doing what or any of that. I simply turn on my Netflix and slowly but surely I'm catching up on so many movies I haven't even heard of let alone watched. It's nice having a bit of down time right now to be able to do this. I might get out to a theater once a year, they're getting to insane with the prices of going out to a movie in my opinion.

I'm glad you submitted your feedback, hopefully more people will do so and next year will be a better presentation.

Have a wonderful week!

I will tell u that I really liked what Ben Affleck said in his speech.. How genuine and forthcoming he is.. He has certainly matured beyond his years... He and Jennifer ( the right one, that is) are doing something right... The other Jen was a definite mistake.

Now that Jennifer Lawrence has won, I think it would be really cool if Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones would arrange to be seated at the same table with her at some awards show, be there ahead of her and start freaking out over being seated at the same table as her when they she her approaching. For that is how Jennifer reacted when she found out that she was to be sitting at the same table as them a year or so ago, and they asked the usher to seat them somewhere else on account of not knowing who she was. In any event, I hope Michael and Catherine have apologized for their shocked behavior before, and since I think both of them have a rather good sense-of-humor, I think they would go along with switching the situation on her.

I didn't like it at all. Cary was toggling back and forth between it an NCIS, and I would have preferred to just watch re-runs of NCIS.

I am so happy for Jennifer Lawrence, and that is the only movie that we have seen so far; we both loved it.

Karen, you are right, the audience looked very unhappy. There was a lot of rude stuff inserted on the show that I didn't appreciate. And why did the first lady pop in?

And to think that I thought Beyonce's Superbowl dance was bad.

I like your idea of how to change things.

Kathy- I totally agree with you, and NCIS is like one of my fave shows, even the NCIS-LA is good too. Funny thing I grabbed my lap top to use because it was so boring, so that helped!

I didn't watch it. I decided to wrestle a gorilla instead. I lost. It was so much better than the Oscars.

JJ - I'm thinking a good many of us should have joined you in your gorilla fight! We would have had a better time!

Cloudia- best words to describe them ever!

I must be one of the few people in the universe who doesn't have many feelings about the Oscars one way or another. Half of me says that taste is a personal thing. The other half looks at a movie review and thinks, "Well, if it got an Oscar, it must be good!" :)

I didn't watch it. It is broadcasted in the middle of the night and not by an open channel. I would love to see it once in a while, but I rather see the movies themselves. Every day I read Ken Levin's blog (kenlevine.blogspot), he had some funny remarks about the oscars and their hosts as well.

I feel it is a total waste of time and haven't watch them in years. If an industry wants to pat itself and it's folks on the back, great, but I don't have to participate.

That said, I'd like to parody the Academy Awards with the Plumber Awards, where the guys with cracks get all dressed up and are honored for how they made our lives better...

Me, a cynic?

I don't watch them.

I don't think I ever had!

But I loved your recap of the whole event!

I think it was way better than sitting on my couch for long!

Happy thursday.

I must confess that I fear the coming of the Oscars. I have little interest in them for what they are, I fail to recognise 90% of those honoured, and if I am lucky I might eventually see 10% of the films 10 years down the line ... BUT. They always crop up in the Pub Quiz the following week (tonight in our case) and therefore I am forced to try and remember who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Bra (or whatever)
