Thematic Photographic - Concretely

"The road is a word, conceived elsewhere and laid across the country in the wound prepared for it: a word made concrete and thrust among us." Wendell Berry

Carmi has given "concretely" as our theme for this week's

So many concrete ways to carry this theme through.

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

Did you hear the story about the shadow people that rose up from the concrete?  It's a mystery waiting to unfold.  Just how could they walk away without feet?

It's a great day to be in the neighborhood!

Clearly then, the inner city of Minneapolis isn't just about concreteness at every corner.  This very playground is nestled along Lake Calhoun and will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of all that come to play here.

Thin Ice
and
Solid as a rock Concrete Sidewalks

Thank goodness for all those concrete sidewalks that lead us to so many worthy destinations.

What ever is this?

Just a glimpse of Curious Concrete Walls- What is the story?

They are the remains of a time long ago.
All ghosts of a nation at war.
At the height of World War II Uncle Sam needed more gunpowder.
The war department seized 11,000 acres of prime farm land
from farmers for the
Gopher Ordnance Works.

More information about these mysterious pieces of concrete T's including hidden doorways and walkways and much boiling water, at this link.

I need to drive by here now that all the greenery is alive and crawling all about.

It's always fun to discover poems living in concrete!

My mind can't stay on one thing long enough to follow a theme *smile*

Those walls are indeed mysterious.

I would like to think that I still have a solid mind, and my beloved wife concurs! Of course, the way she describes it is that I am as hard-headed as ever, but that is the same thing as still having a solid mind--right?

Lisa - they are amazing to read more about and actually visit as well!

R. Mac- you must be lost in your writing, and that's a good thing!

Rising from the concrete is better than being buried in it.

As usual, a creative and unusual interpretation. I don't think there is any way I could have found photos for that theme! :)

Amazing.

A history lesson in photos. Makes me wonder what other secrets of long-ago wars our landscape continues to hold.

I'm willing to bet of anyone I know, you'll be the one to sleuth them out for us. Love this series, Karen!

PS love the Sidewalk Poetry. I remember your previous photos with concrete poetry, it's time other cities start implementing these as well.

And now even more.

Is that wrong?
