Thematic Photographic - Grown

"Youth is wasted on the young."  -  Oscar Wilde

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

Carmi, has given us one of those themes that one could weave so many directions.  Grown, he says, and mine for this post anyway, will be right from my own yard, almost.

Ah yes, the magical growths springing to life, within this body of water, always speak to us of summer heat and how the algae has grown.

Algae are the base of the food chain and essential to the life in a lake.

If one were stuck on a desert island as such
in a place where all four seasons exist
you could determine the season by the water.

Once the cooler temperatures of fall arrive this lake will be clearer again.
As another season fades away and the next season grows,
before our eyes.

Preparing to be frozen over again.

Then, while I had my back turned with festivities over the 4th of July holiday, a few of my plants have suddenly
"grown out of their box" and need to be brought to my garden.

Yes, they love to come to life inside my greenhouse.

They seriously went from tiny little hopefuls
to this like overnight!

Then from a flower bed, more growth.

Finally one blossom has come to life!  A few more buds are bursting with promise, but this is the first for this season.

It's quite proud of itself, can't you tell?

Ah yes, the growth and life of tiger lillies.  They live everywhere around here.  Most of them come from a long ancestral lineage, given to me directly from gardens of friends.  This special one dates back to a dear gardening woman (now tending to her garden above for many years now.)  Who knows how long she had her first garden in Minneapolis.

It's just another way for her to be remembered as they grow around my yard.

It is beautiful. We created a new Key West garden in our yard this year, and it has actually changed our daily routines. Plants and flowers that enjoy the spring time really do brighten our spirits.

A lovely garden--that's all "grown up" but in a good way!

Arlynda has fought to keep a philodendron alive since 1981. She has done this against all odds, and there have been many (drought, flooding, bugs, cats, me...).

Love the lilies.

Love the lake!

It has always been an ambition of mine to be able to grow hibiscus - but we do get frosts here in the winter, and I have managed to kill off quite a few plants over the years!

Lovely photos of your growing things.

Beautiful lake, and beautiful plants. I've got one plant in my house, that is surviving despite my best efforts to neglect it. I'm always amazed at people who can grow things so well.

Lovely photos - yes things are apt to grow rapidly when you are not looking! What happens to the algae when the lake freezes?

Algae can be a menace. I'd take your garden and the tiger lilies every time.

Hi Karen. Thanks for yet again taking a theme and making it completely your own. I'm especially taken by the riot-of-life tone of this entry: with a little nurturing, virtually anything alive will grow to its full potential. And beyond.

I feel empowered and invigorated by your take on "grown", and am headed out the door to see if I can find some more of it closer to home.

What lovely photos. I'm especially fond of your lilies. My grandmother grew amazing lilies in Minneapolis. They do not do as well in Arizona but they remain my favorite flower.
