Sepia Saturday - 29 June 2013

Caves is it?  Well, when all else falls, why not take a vacation and locate a cave?  It sure may help to cool ourselves off in an underground cave.

SEPIA SATURDAY

I'm thinking Little Nell's theme for this week is begging for a road trip.  Besides, summer is a perfect time to getaway.  So, why not follow along in with my mini-vacation.

Of course, for many of you just now joining my mini vacation you'll need to reach Minnesota first.  So, here are a few options.

Northwest Airlines, always an excellent choice.

Here's an oldie but always a smooth ride.

OR,

Surely, booking a cruise is a most enjoyable choice.

Biking isn't a bad idea.

It's a healthy choice.

I know some of you may decide to drive.

If I owned a 1956 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket, I'd drive here too!
(But, I might never leave the Oceanside.)

Don't forget to bring you family dog along too.  Just remember their leash.

A few of you may have to travel a bit to board transportation to America.

Like one of these.

Please though, whatever you decide upon, once you arrive in Minnesota pay close attention to any farm land you may care to romp about.  Very often, especially here in Minnesota we take great joy in having random animals running about free.

You just never know which animal you may surprise!

Some are known to silently slip out of the water and take cover on shore.

They aren't looking to frighten tourists, but they can be alarmed.  Trust me, it's never a good idea to startle a moose.

Also, it's,
Very important to book your hotel, motel or cabin accommodations as things tend to get filled rather quickly during the summer months.

Or you'll be driving to Minneapolis for a good night's rest.

Or some other suburb of Minneapolis, like Anoka, Minnesota.

VACATION TIME

What you all came here for.

Inside the Mystery Cave

Explore the underground world of Mystery Cave with its stalactites, stalagmites, and underground pools.

So worth it right?

Once you've had your fill of underground caves, you can bike or hike around the many trails, or take a trip to town.

Here's a good example from back in the day along the streets of one neighboring town around The Mystery Caves.

Not to worry for those of you that crave a delicious (non-greasy) burger when you're hungry.

Or you can dine inside as well.

Oh yes, and plenty of friendly churches to visit as well.

There's an endless supply of other tourist accommodations too.  Or just put up your tent.

Then you can meet your new neighbors.
Share a few laughs, pass a few beers, roast marshmallows and create friends for life.

So the choice of transportation is really up to you.

Just be sure to pack plenty of clothes, as the evenings can get a bit chilly, when they're not extremely humid.  You must understand Minnesota weather.  It can go from high 70's to a snow storm in the blink of an eye!

So are you going to just

stay seated around your television sets sipping Root Beer and pretend to be reading the paper, or come along with me?
It's your choice.

Thematic Photographic - 249 - Shiny and New

Carmi has served "Shiny and new" as our theme this week.

Shiny is as shiny shines.
So,
what new do I have that's shiny too?

A new bottle of wine!

It's so new to us, that we've never tasted it before.

Experimental bell out for a sunny shine!

Random glasses waiting in hopes of bearing something cold!

Speaking of bears -

Saturday at the Minnesota Zoo

Shiny should be his middle name.  His water was pretty shiny too.  My cell phone didn't pick it up as well as being there.  He was just a romping and swimming and turning over and carrying on like the whole world was watching him!

We were too.  Every blue, green and brown eyed person was linked to each and every move he made.

Yeah we all shine on,
like the moon,
and the stars
and the sun.

Yeah, John Lennon!

Alphabe-Thursday - Fleetward

Feeling fortunate, with a flash of fleeting forward- and faring well!

Our letter from Jenny, at her "Off on my tangent" blog, for Alphabe-Thursday is the letter "F"

Faring well, in regards to anything that can and does fall in our way.

Rescued.
Faring well through frantic moments.

"How sweet for those faring badly to forget their misfortunes even for a short time." - Sophocles

Favoring sunlight.

Oops,
It's so fortunate to have a little bit of luck on our side sometimes.

Fashionably happy with his free space and cup of coffee.

Fetching and festive.

Fitting how our American Flag survives over and over again.

Ah yes, the dream kitchen, is faring extremely well in many eyes.

and yet,

Faring even better-

Or,

Better yet,
faring really well when we invite strangers to dinner.

Forever.

Saturday Centus - 22 June 2013

"Lightning is something which, again, we would rather avoid." - Richard Branson

Welcome to Saturday Centus, on Saturday.

The prompt this week:   Write 100 words about the picture above

Number of words:  No more than 100 total
Style of writing: Any
Additional Pictures: Any

 Freeze Action
My Best Defense

Soundless thoughts surround me
as I toss and turn
through the horizon
of my awareness.

Everything aglow
beneath the distant roar.

Eerie lights against my face
thunder echoed beneath
groaning clouds
and fat raindrops
against my face.

Oh so many times
my thoughts wander in my half-slumber
as I'm

 awakened by
reflections of
life

But it's thunder
that worries me most
and smelling electricity
through the air
and cracks of lightning
filling the room

around me
flashing down all around me.

Until that one certain flash of lightning
 strikes deep within
I know
through the shutters of belief
this too shall pass.

Six Word Saturday - 22 June 2013

Dance like nobody is watching.  Just do it.  Before you can't.

MOSTLY BAD THINGS HAPPEN
IN THREES

HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY KNOWN
AS CLUSTERING ILLUSION?

Maybe.

I'm sure you've all wondered at least once, why do bad things happen in threes?  I found myself reaching out to Google just this morning for answers.

Why?

FIRST
In a few short hours I was faced with three tragic happenings.  Okay, it's understandable that my father's beloved Aunt Doris (would have celebrated her 100th birthday in 3 weeks) never woke up from her sleep.

 SECOND
Our television aired the horrible fire (and total loss) from random lightning striking a house in the middle of the night west of us.

THIRD
Worse yet, a fellow past co-worker, a young married woman of 43, mother of three was tragically killed instantly on a motorcycle.

Why three?

If you have the time you may find this article interesting, rewarding and even reassuring while visiting our human psyche.

The important thing is

we're alive.

Treasure every moment of it, before it's too late.

Sepia Saturday 22 June 2013 - Drink it all in!

"Cream doesn't rise to the top, it works its way up."

SEPIA SATURDAY

Stop the presses!  For a very important break, for a very special date, before I continue.

Okay, let's take a moment to peer inside my crystal ball and see just what our dear Alan might be up to, while the rest of us here at Sepia Saturday are posting without him.

Without a doubt, there will be dancing in the streets -

In honor of Alan's birthday while he's on holiday.

Hopefully, not too much celebrating because, we wouldn't want

To hear the motorcycle-police say,
"Off to Alan's birthday bash we go!"

So, enough crystal ball fun, and on with, Little Nell, aka Marilyn and what amazing and delicious theme she has poured for us this week -

Off to the creamery - I rather like the sound of that too.

Back to Sepia Saturday.

What an exciting trip to the creamery it was.

November 1939 San Angelo, Texas
loading empty milk cans
at the creamery.

Back in the day, it was common to see a house being moved, or building removed,  just to build another creamery.

Moving house to make room for expansion of Arden Farms Creamery, in San Diego California, in May of 1941.

Churning butter with their own dasher churn, in 1905.

What fun it was to churn your own.

I wonder if this is how they do it today?

Taking butter out of churns at the Dairymen's Cooperative Creamery. Caldwell, Canyon County, Idaho. These are some of the most modern churns in the United States.
(As of this date in June of 1941)

All butter of this creamery is marketed through the Challenge Butter and Cream Association, a cooperative marketing association, and is sold in California.

We shouldn't forget the most important part of this entire creamery business.

The cows!

 Sweet baby face.

and need I mention,

Grab a glass,

Fresh milk.

Need I say more?

Any idea what this is?

It's a "milk tree" all earthenware crocks for keeping milk outdoors in Jere, West Virginia, September 1938.

So many segments to this creamery business.

In the creamery power room.

How about those Food Shows?

Borden Creamery Booth, 1922 Food Show.

If I hurry,

I won't get caught.  Please, don't tell.

Thank you for stopping by, your visits and comments are all very special to me.

Also, a very special thank you to Little Nell for keeping us all afloat (and in healthy thoughts) here at Sepia Saturday.

Remember, drink more milk.
