Sepia Saturday - 21 June 2014 - A Whole New World

Today's post is for a very special event.

Congratulations to Alan's son and his wife to be, on this glorious of all occasions, their wedding.

SEPIA SATURDAY

Of course, since we can't all attend this festive event, Alan has asked us to present in our place of being there, photos from our own wedding or any other weddings important to us.

A girl's first wedding is everything, in my opinion.

After our wedding we drove to a photographer to have a few photos taken, before returning to a small group for our dinner celebration with family.  My dear daddy made dinner reservations at Treasure Island, a favorite restaurant of mine that was nestled along a river and day or night twinkle lights glowed from all their trees.

This was our main wedding picture and the photo insert was taken after our wedding.

Soon after, happiness often came at a dear price in those days.

I Shall Always Remember,

Shortly after our wedding, my new mother-in-law bless her darling little heart (which by the way is still ticking and she's happily basking in the hot Florida sun for her remaining years) said this to me soon after I married her only son.

"You are not a young chickadee any more."

It was after a discussion she'd had about me continuing to wear short skirts.

Sadly for us, (but better in so many ways) our marriage was not to last.  However, most importantly, our union (three years later at the age of 19) gifted me with my first adorable little boy, and my dear ex-hubby and I remained good friends (for the most part) throughout the years, right up to my ex-husband's last days on earth.

Luckily, their family name is yet to continue, as our son also gave birth to a boy.

Young marriages oft times travel rocky roads because personalities are still maturing and changing. Happily, some of those marriages do last & become stronger. I'm sorry yours did not, but it's good the two of you have remained in good stead with each other for your child's and now grandchild's sake, as well as for your own.

It is so good that you remained friends - sounds like the picture has some good memories as well as the bittersweet ones.

I disagree with your ex mother-in-law...I wore mini skirts into my 30s...mainly because that was when they came into style. I probably stopped when I was 32 or so. You were definitely still a chickadee!

If your husband was a momma's boy I can see why your marriage didn't last. Your mother-in-law didn't sound like the most tactful of people. She reminds me of my mother-in-law. Some are very hard to get along with.

You were so young and very pretty. However, there is a maturity in your eyes that you do not see in 16 years olds today.

Sixteen is so young to be married, before you really have any life experience - I thought 21 was young enough!

Goodness that is very young to marry and what a strange conversation to have with your M-i-L! It’s good that you remained friends with your ex.

Karen, I think you need to insert a couple of words at the end - unless your son really DID give birth; in which case did it make the Nationals? :)

Sweet sixteen and married. That really surprised me.

You're adorable. Great that you could stay on good terms with your ex. Youthful marriage has it's good points - you were probably pretty wise by the time you were twenty-five.

Life is never as sweet and happy ever after as a Disney movie would have us believe. Thanks for sharing the other side of the photo story.

A fine post. A glance into your life.
A mother-in-law can ruin an otherwise good marriage. (Speaking from personal experience.)
