"I keep my own personality in a cupboard under the stairs at home so that no one else can see it or nick it." - Dawn French
UNDERNEATH
IT ALL
Beginning upon, hidden masses of under-spoken parquet floors
forever stamped by woolly staircase, packing my heedful
woes, climbing by perfect aim, never to stumble upon
the worn frayed edges of our last days together.
This once ever striking fifteen step staircase
now in unpredictable dregs of Skid Row
Just try going up a down staircase
if you will.

Expert mood-creation; well done.
Looks like the stairs of the places I stayed off-campus the last two or three summers of college.
And maybe a couple more after that!
Nice verse, Karen.

I particularly like the line, "worn, frayed edges of our last days together."
So it is Orpheus Escalator !!
Some lasting memories of growing up can be most remembered! Nicely Karen!

I like this top-down look at a staircase. My favorite bit:
the worn frayed edges of our last days together.
Interesting design--both in presentation and wording.
Worn and frayed last days...says a lot!
" the worn frayed edges of our last days together". This fits perfectly with the prompt and poem..
I like the worn frayed edges and the last lines too.
A very atmospheric piece.
" Just try going up a down staircase, if you will." Fraught with dangers, Karen! Really like it.

Never to stumble upon the worn frayed edges of our last days together is a powerful phrase. Loved this!
