Stones Throw Away - Good Fences

Or rather, mighty boulders cometh since my last visit here, you'll see what I mean.

Giddy up horsey please take us to the Burwell House.

and it was quite by accident that we drove right by it last Sunday.  We were headed elsewhere, but how could I resist a quick stop there as well?

You might believe this wall of boulders has been here since the beginning-

but you'd be mistaken.

The wall serves to break the way of the land, more than anything else.

It's beautiful too, and had my camera not shut down from the cold air, I would have captured a few of the etchings scattered about the rocks.

This bridge and fencing crosses the Minnehaha Creek, and is also a new addition to the property.  They've been busy out here.

Care to rest for a bit?

Just keep following the path, it will lead you back to the main house.

"Something there is that doesn't love a wall
that sends the frozen-ground-swell under it
and spills the upper boulders in the sun
(if it were out)
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast."
Robert Frost

Speaking of frost, which reminds us of winter, just a few hours after taking these pictures winter returned to most parts of Minnesota.

Gorgeous old house and wonderful stone wall! Lovely grounds. That was the perfect Robert Frost quote! And I loved the fence/artwork you started out with too.

The idea of a camera shutting down because it's too cold just makes this Floridian shudder

I love how it "snakes" through the property. You wouldn't think the stone would seem warm but it makes the view of the house in that first shot so inviting. Lovely fence find!

I like stone fences so much. We have an old stone fence around our house and this place is so stony that here is stone fences around this village. It was very interesting to see your photos and read your blog !!!!
