Magpie Tales and Sunday Selections

I'm linking to

THE MAG

and

SUNDAY SELECTIONS
(originally brought to us by Kim, at Frogpondsrock
now continued by River, at Drifting through life)

"There's never an easy route to the things that matter." Our image from Tess for this week's Magpie brought "The Onion Girl" by Charles de Lint to mind.

It's Not What You Think You Saw
But What You Feel
They call it
Reflection Therapy.
Where-

At first a mere glance

then chanting, mirror, mirror
upon my bare back-

Will we ever once
be able to perceive our
own hidden beauty?

Even roses have
been known to burst through mud
and souls of concrete.

Bursting, with a thirsty revenge-
through all the tangible and unchangeable cracks
 between yesterday and tomorrow.

No writing or visions on any wall
will ever be able
to define who we truly are.

It must be felt
and shared
and felt again.

From the Onion Girl:
"It is so easy for your people to forget that everything has a spirit,
 that all are equal.
That magic and mystery are a part of your lives,
not something to store away in a child's bedroom,
or to use as an escape from your lives."
Charles de Lint

I guess it is all about perspective. Do we choose to see only certain aspects of ourselves?

You want to talk about hidden beauty? Give Diane keaton's "Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty" a read. One of the loveliest passages about beauty I've ever read -- a re-definition. And your photos were the perfect illustrations.

I just had this conversation with a friend on the telephone this morning, being so busy people often don't make or take the time to self-evaluate or reflect, it's much easier to stuff things in a closet and tuck it safely away. The problem being is one day upon opening the closet doors there's going to be an avalanche and everything is going to come flying out of there. The magical and mystical is to be lived, explored and felt, not to store away in the bedroom closet. And now I think that I'll go clean the closet I've been putting off doing, literally! :-)

I love your post! Thank you.

So glad to see you around again! What a delightful mind you have Karen I enjoyed this! It's so hard for us to see the hidden treasures in ourselves that others find. Have a good week! Big hug!

I really enjoyed this! Both the words and the images you shared worked perfectly together and gave me that same feeling I get when at a good museum exhibit, the kind that sinks in and changes your day.
