A Most Prestigious

"Appreciation, not possession, makes a thing ours."
Marty Rubin

Funny Lasses
(the Gridiron women, dubbed as Gridiron widows)

and

Jokester remarks!

"Let a kind word warm you when your thoughts turn cold."
Marty Rubin

"A pessimist is a man who thinks
everybody is as nasty as himself,
and hates them for it."
George Bernard Shaw

"An original idea. That can't be too hard. The library must be full of them."
Stephen Fry

A Most Prestigious
joining of critters and
the prestigious journalistic
organizations in Washington
The Gridiron Club dining since
1885.

Remember membership is by invitation only
guessing the Gridiron members share
the same adaptation which plays a critical role
 in their survival as well.
Critters and men alike?

Hence putting down their axes to
laugh and joke away one evening each year.

"When the ax came into the woods,
many of the trees said,
at least the handle is one of us."
Turkish proverb.

SATURDAY'S CRITTERS

I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh.
Maya Angelou

"Nothing is more ridiculous than one person telling another how to live."
Marty Rubin

Delightfully intriguing critters
real and otherwise!

Meet Lucy the six-story elephant shaped example
 of novelty architecture.
You too can experience the rapture with tours beginning every 30 minutes,
where you can walk through and actually come out alive!
Don't feed the elephant!
Check out this video for the inside story which began in 1881
by James V. Lafferty here.

We're happily joining with
(instead of a golf club a Gridiron members club)
and

photos from the Library of Congress taken in 1937 and 1939.

"We are fighting now to save the endangered species, the individual."
Marty Rubin

Beware what lies behind the curtain.

"Having a comic in the White House
will assure stability in foreign relations.
The world will continue to respond
to foreign initiatives by saying,
You must be kidding."

Pat Paulsen
a live clip from Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
1967/68. Hilarious.

Gathering at a waterfowl sanctuary near Washington on the Potomac River.

Have you ever wondered who designs the dinner menu at these affairs and where the supplies are obtained?

"The F word turns me on, she whispered.
The F word?
Food.
He threw back his head and laughed.
For the first time in years
his laughter was spontaneous.
It wasn't tinged with bitterness and cynicism."
Sandra Brown
Dinner table conversations.

Arriving in enthusiastic good humor was
potential presidential timber Paul McNutt.

"Ideas stand in the corner and laugh while we fight over them."
Marty Rubin

On the right Lord Lothian British Ambassador to the United States
meeting Paul McNutt for the first time.

"Freedom began on the day the first sheep wandered away from the herd."
Marty Rubin

I'm closing with a joke from last night's 2018 Gridiron dinner. It's one where they say it jokingly, but deep down you're seriously wishing that it will come true.

"Knowing Donald Trump, it won't be long before he dumps the United States for a much younger country."
McManus

Are you ready for a bit of double thought?

Always remember, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
Harry S. Truman
There are two different things: there's grilling, and there's barbecue.
Grilling is when people say,
"We're gonna turn up the heat,
make it really hot and sear a steak
sear a burger,
cook a chicken.
Barbecue is going low and slow."

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me.
Take good care of you.

The Pat Paulsen clip is hilarious. I happen to know a man who did father a child at
age 70 and his child did/does collect social security. I wonder why they wrote
that provision into the law. Does it encourage late in life procreation? Nice photos.

Methinks there may be some political overtones to this, but I am not sure. (LOL?)

Lots of smiles - thank you.

A neat medley of photos and quotes. Sometimes all we can do is laugh. I could easily live in an elephant house, but I'd want its trunk to move and squirt water.

I think the donkey is the cutest of all critters - though an elephant house would be interesting.

That's a great Turkish proverb.

I love burros.

Hello, sorry I am late commenting. Our internet and power have been out due to a wind storm last Friday. I just love the cute donkeys. They are adorable critters. Lucy, the six-story elephant is a sight to see. Great quotes and post. Thanks for linking up your post. I hope you have a happy week ahead.
