Alan's theme photo for this week features a famous photo from William Henry Fox Talbot taken in 1840 of Nicolaas Henneman while he sleeps. The names of Talbot's basic everyday pictures are quite common, yet fascinating. The Ladder, The Open Door, (featuring a stunning broom) Lace, A handkerchief with a shadow, called "Talbot's Shadow" of course, and more.
This next photo From the "Metropolitan Series" of stereographs could be a close relative or even possibly Nicolaas Henneman himself. Check out Alan's photo and I'm sure you'll agree!

What a great collection of images - not to mention the information about William Henry Fox Talbot. Sepia Saturday is like a walk through a museum with very knowledgeable guides!
In the first photo there is an aquarium in the background - perhaps it is a mythical sea creature in front.
My favorite is Uncle Horst.
Nice collection of sleepy photos. I've taken my share of naps on trains and your grandfather looks like he is getting a good one. You uncle looks very comfortable in his nap. And someone please wake up the woman sleeping on a park bench!!

Liz- I think you are right, a part of him appears like a dinosaurs, but that head...seems a bit, mythical for sure!
I was thinking the statue was of a dinosaur, but outside an aquarium, I wonder, perhaps a sea dragon - you know they exist!
Wonderful collection Karen. It seems we do like to snap people unawares. That first 'walking' shot falls into that category too I think. It's full of detail. I like the little girl at the ice cream cabin, standing on tiptoes, whilst her mother urges her to decide what flavour to have.
brett - You may be right about it being a sea dragon! I wonder if he's till there...I'll have to check it out.
That is a fancy looking gargoyle! Seems to be in Germany. Perhaps Cologne? Love the sepia theme! :)

A collection of slumbers and poses. Uncle Horst could not have kept that twisted up pose for too long? Can't be sure what that statue is in the first.
Little Nell you are so right....I truly enjoy the photos that my parent's family have taken even before I was born so today I can view them...it's funny even as a child I used to pour over all those albums...! I still do!
I love the last postcard. I don't think the man in the stereo view is the same as Alan's because his eyebrows don't look the same.

As closely as I inspected your last photo I culdn't see any any writing on the backside(s) either.
The train sleeper is superb, much better that sleeping on the luggage rack - which I did on troop trains on occasions.

These are lovely pictures, all of them. The park bench in the last one looks as though it's made of stone. It can't be at all comfortable!
The train shot is wonderful. It looks like he's being lovingly held by the chair.

I've visited Berlin last year but missed that Iguanodon statue, I'm glad it still exists (it is a miracle it survived the WWII bombardments).
Fabulous collection. I have a photo of my father and his sister at the Berlin zoo, perhaps at about the same time. In the photo of Barchen I love the little girl on tiptoes, presumably in anticipation of an ice cream cone.
Great medley on the theme. Naps on the train and in the lawn chair are the best.
