Ebbing Away

The woeful song of her spirit
weighed heavy in her broken heart.
A fierce, fiery emotion
was erupting within her.

Foreseeing his arrival,
ignites a kind of ecstasy.

A Sijo poem
My first attempt.

I've been reading Sijo (poems) lately.  They are a poem that originated in Korea. A sijo has a fixed number of stressed syllables, usually divided into three or six lines.  But the interesting thing about sijo poems, is that they always have a surprise, or unexpected twist or joke, at the end of the poem.

Very interesting poetic form; I learned something...

I learned something too. I haven’t got over the vilanelle yet and now I’ve got another form to add! It’s a lovely poem and the fire references (fierce, fiery, eruptions and ignite) makes me think this is a ‘volcanic' relationship

Tess, thanks :)

Brian- thanks, they say the sijo poems were made for singing! So that works for me!

Little Nell you are so spot on! I also had to share on my Facebook that lovely British rock band...I had their music playing in the back ground as long as I could!

Dear Karen: "Edding Away" has an exciting twist at the end like a good Sijo. The "Ebbing Away" is very creative form of poetry. Thank-you~!

Chiccoreal- Thanks so much! This was my first attempt at writing a Sijo. I really enjoy reading them!

And so I learned a new thing today: sijo. The last two lines really seal it!

Thanks to your post, Karen, I came to know something new today. Sijo poems sound interesting. I would want to try the new form, too.

Nice write! :)

Will there be more to that poem? It is truly great as is, but it begs for more.

pretty cool. i liked the poem on its own merit. then read about sijo. very interested and if my head ache goes away and somehow my memory of having a notion to want to learn the rules of writing sijo stays intact, i will give it a whirl.

enjoyed my stroll down from the top and all that orange to find your sijo surprise.

wish i had that glass of orange juice. wouldn't care for it nearly as much were it green

cheers

Although I do not know what a sijo poem is, if this is your first attempt at one I'd dare say it was a success. At least, I enjoyed reading this with a happy ending.

This is a great poem. I like the happy ending.

Sad n a way , this stckholm syndrome where we welcme our oppressor, so many people fighting to defend a system that would see them enslaved , indeed being excited by the prospect !, thanks
