Thematic Photographic - 215 - Shiny

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

Carmi is delighting the screen today with -

SHINY

Live today, from the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis

The stainless steel pedestrian bridge crossing Washington Avenue.
If you were standing here and looked to the west you'd see -

 The Weisman Art Museum

named for

Frederick R. Weisman
and was designed by the
renowned architect

Frank Gehry

Frederick R. Weisman- was a Minneapolis native who became well known for his art collecting in Los Angeles and he died in 1994.

Sometimes called "Modern art museum"

It's situated on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River at the east end of the Washington Avenue Bridge and is one of the major landmarks on campus.

This view is taken from inside the museum.

Catching a portion of the Minneapolis skyline in a window of the museum.

Trying to understand modern art is like trying to follow the plot in a bowl of alphabet soup.

The museum is a playground of curving and angular brushed steel sheets.

"When hope is not pinned wriggling onto a shiny image or expectation, it sometimes floats forth and opens." - Anne Lamott

I appreciate the comment on modern art. I love it, but I'm still not sure why.

All great, but I love the window reflection one best.

;-)

ifthethunderdontgetya- I know, I took a lot of window shots, not all from this building. It's amazing what stills around just waiting to be noticed.

Alexia- No way, I've already checked out your shiny-and each picture was totally shiny-cool=perfect, as well as your closing quote too!

Lisa-thanks, I'm still checking for your photo-to write a title and line for!

Cloudia- I do too, and the inside rocks too!

JJ- Maybe because you've tried to make a sentence out of your bowl and ran out of letters?!!!

What a fantastic place! And great shots of it! I think I like it, but whether I could live with it in my town I'm not sure!

Would love to explore inside though.

I didn't realize how much I like texture, until I saw all this shiny.

Wow. A little goes a long way.

This place makes a statement, don't it?

(Like, I can spend more money than anyone else)

But then, I'm a cynic from way back.

Now a good picture would be the mirror image of a cloud off all that shiny. *big smile*

I'm going to Seran wrap my house right now...and wow my neighbors. *wink*

(just had to throw that in, too)

R. Mac- I think that's a heck of a good shiny idea! I want to see it too!

Gilly - it's a great museum, constantly changing up, and often people actually get married there! They had once the best Bob Dylan display ever, it was amazing to travel step by step through his amazing life, with all his adventures.

That's a building I'd really like to see but I guess I'll just have to settle for your marvellous shiny shots.

The 'shiny' in that museum is so spectacular, from so many different angles. I love the architecture so much.

Very Shiny :-). Thank you for another fascinating site!

Oh wow, I thought the bridge was made out of stone from that first shot!

I screamed "Gehry" as soon as the first shot loaded. He is my all-time fave architect-hero. What a mind, and what a gift for seeing what no one else can - and then turning it into crazy-gorgeous reality.

I was privileged to see one of his creations in Seattle a few years back. Always magical to come face to face with such brilliance.
