Spring Forward

The times they are a changing, - Bob Dylan

Benjamin Franklin among the first people to suggest Daylight Saving Time, writing in a 1784 essay that adjusting the clocks in the spring could be a good way to save on candles, according to Discovery.com. However, it wasn't adopted until World War I, when Germany and Austria adopted it to save on fuel in 1916. Other countries followed suit, with the United States adopting it in 1918, according to webexhibits.org

Said the penguin to the sleeping polar bear,
"Did you hear me?"

Too cute...the penguin, not the changing of the time. Makes sense but I am of the age I fight changing anything.

I didn't know this stuff; I always thought that it had to do with the farmers for some reason.

Thanks, Karen!

We Forget What A Relatively Recent Concept Timekeeping Is.Before Clocks & Timetables I Guess We All Just Looked At The Position Of The Sun (or,in the case of England,The Brightness of The Rain!!!).
Typical ! You Invent Something then Someone Comes Along To Tinker With It!

I never knew why the change ever came about, now I'm curious when and why Canada also jumped on this bandwagon. I sure feel like I way overslept today, according to the clock that is... such is life.

Have a wonderful day Karen!

Mac- clever- but this polar bear has a way gentle heart I can just tell! But you never can trust those penguins! They're pranksters!

Darlin- I know they mainly did it here for the farmers to have extra working light and for the children at bus stops, but personally I like the falling back in fall for some reason it feels like we gain more time- but then now I guess we're even! Who knows for sure right!

That strange clock dial at the top looks strangely familiar... where have I seen it, I wonder?

That penguin looks like he is going to bang them again. It is great fun. I am dreading the change and hoping I can get my body to make the adjustment quickly.

Thanks for the history on Daylight Savings Time. I miss my sleep but love the light!!

The big question is, is DST really all useful today? For many it serves to confuse and aggrevate. For instance, me! I don't know why I can NEVER remember if I should set the clock back or forward each time. The old saying, spring forward, fall back always gets scrambled in my brain. I do like the longer daylight hours, but granted this is gonna happen regardless if we change our clocks or not as the earth tilts with the seasonal change. =D
