Six Word Saturday - 7 September 2013

Law and Order, Rules and Leaders.  Seriously, that is the big "Alpha" question roaring at our house at the moment.

THE ALPHA RACE IS ON NOW

Lady, part collie, from her pure bred collie mother, her father's background unknown to us, took over the roll of alpha from the beginning 14 years ago.  Seriously, being the wisest, and smartest dog ever, and especially since we have always been a vacation spot for my friends and family that needed dog or cat care while they were gone.

Somebody had to keep Law and Order.

She kept all of them in line.

Cat on the table?  Lady handled it.

Now that she is gone, her alpha spot is in question.  Hmm, not so sure how this will play out.

They aren't either.

Seriously, if Lady is looking down at us right now, she knows we're in big trouble without her!

Trust me, they are working on it, and it just best not be our indoor kitty cat, Kitty, because, well I need not explain.  I'll save that story for part two!

As it stands right now, Kitty is working hard on this situation as well.

Yikes!

Our Aussie-mix is part collie and a bright dog who is approaching 13 and I feel sad when I think of life without him.

Sage, I hear you. My world has come to quite a stand still within my heart and soul. Good luck to you and your dear doggie.

O Karen, I am sorry to hear that Lady has died. Her job slot may be filled but no one will ever be able to replace her. My vote is for the cat to fill her job.

Our Adi, beagle dog and registered therapy dog, died September 17, 2012, at age 16 years and 10 months; she hasn't been replaced. We do have Katrin, our toy poodle, but she doesn't come near to replacing Adi.

Lady sounds like a lady it would have been a privilege to know.

Pets--they are such furry little souls! Folks who are not "pet people" just don't understand, do they?

Lovely story! Sorry to read that you lost Lady, she seemed like a wonderful dog!
Interesting to learn how that works: the alpha race and I'm curious who will win the race eventually!

Great story, sorry for your loss. I felt the same way when our cat Nip passed away a few years ago. I had trouble finding out who would be the alpha cat since Nip was kind of the alpha. My brothers cat 'Little Kitty' has now taken the reigns, although Little Kitty's brother thinks that he is and tries to act tough. : )

It looks like your grieving process is proceeding along quite healthfully, but that cat has to be stopped...at all costs.

Dogs and cats have their own rules about roles, don't they? I have had several cats who chose to be greeter cats, a few that were "get up NOW" cats, and a dog who insisted that no car was acceptable unless he got to ride in it. Anywhere.

That next dog might (and probably will) have its own set of behaviors; whatever they are, I'm sure you'll enjoy him or her just as much.

And, yeah, they leave a huge hole in our lives when they go. Like the empty chair at the table...
