Horses, Drinking, Lighthouse

Greetings!
I hope the spring bug is biting in your neck of the woods.

Horses

and drinking.

So Alan mentioned drinking, and horses for our theme and what springs to mind for me is water, and what does every good sized body of water require? Well a lighthouse naturally.

An unexpected twist to the theme this weekend. Lighthouses once had a quality of permanence combined with aesthetic design and practicality for the light keeper. Today they need only engineering and radio control. Nothing worthy of historic charm like this one.

That's quite a house the light tower is attached to. I love the tall narrow windows & the fancy trim around them. And the small balcony off the top floor windows is perfect!

Who cares what kind of curious reasoning takes you from horses to lighthouses, it was a journey worth making for all those go us who shared the ride with you. Come to think of it, there is a pub I know called The Lighthouse!

I always associate lighthouses with the sea. Although they are also on land in the UK its those subject to the wind and and the waves which fascinate me. A foghorn blast every 30 secs must be very wearing - I hope it only sounds when the weather is bad.

I do love b/w and all these subjects lend themselves well to that tonality. Very nice.

First photo has horses, very nice indeed. And I've always loved light houses...I was surprised there are no identifying stripes painted on that one. I thought each lighthouse had different striping on it in the US. Maybe just its unique form is enough.

What an interesting building! Back in 2015 we drove around Caoe Cod and saw quite a number of lighthouses there.

What is it about a lighthouse that makes us want to climb those stairs? Other tall buildings don't have the same effect. And I love the quote that we must all be like a lighthouse.
