Timeless - The Mag

"To be evenminded
is the greatest virtue.
Wisdom is to speak
the truth and act
in keeping with its nature."
- Heraclitus

From this Land
of
Chattering Folk
Grow Trees

Why do
Trees speak
even to those who
cannot tell an elm from
a four-hundred year old oak?
As it whispers from the hallows
of those mighty Pillars in close formation,
swinging low from Angel Oak to the many dancing
magical auras rooted deep within the most beloved Zelkova,
with its ornamental shade and wise old trunks sagging
of honesty and swallowing up old vows
Cast by sticks and stones, shedding happiness and fertility
and shade with limbs of power branching strangely under
rituals and myths both past and present
 deeply rooted
in our souls
igniting auras
evermore.

Now for the nature of things in my neck of the woods.

A whiteness powdered the sky around us.

We welcome not this storm of spring
and still it came in festive fling.

Branches worn heavy, of white shag in March Madness form.

No blistering blizzard
simply silent-slanting snow falling
10 inches deep it scissored
the center of our spring.

Beautiful pictures and very hard for me to imagine snow when our weather has been in the 80's for the past week!

Beautiful pictures. Oh, the way things could be. Green. We haven't had any measurable rain for a long time, everything is brown. White. The snow, beautiful snow. I usually hate winter, but again, we haven't had snow in the city since Christmas Day. Been the driest, warmest winter in the 41 years I've lived here.
Thanks for the pictures that to remind me what winter and spring should look like.

I love how you give us a quote that answers the question posed by the poem: a tree sings because it is what it is, and it can't stop being even when ignored.

I have nothing to say about the snows of spring. Seriously; we were under several inches on the first day of spring and the stuff is still around. *sigh* Ignore the pout.
