Old Fences

OLD FENCES, because antiquing is always best in autumn.

Let's begin on the horizon, with little sunshine and away from the throngs of tourists, we can expect to embark upon manicured streets with ornate fences framing most city sidewalks.

It's easy being a fan of period pieces but it's especially significant to accept an old-timers suggestion of what's essential to see while listening to their vast experiences.  I miss the old days and my grandmother's worthy advice.

You may remember seeing other photos of this garden below. I've given Sebastian Joe's pretty much all my business for years.

Farewell Summer, let's fall into autumn once again.

"I never in my life argued with a piece of cake
or a bowl of ice cream."
Ray Bradbury

What's especially interesting in this peaceful setting is that just behind these trees and beyond the fences once you close your eyes and simply breathe you'll catch the random scent of  fallen leaves or perhaps a simmering crock pot nearby You can always discover the latest technical or creative skills from local artists in the neighborhood, and often shared within this very garden.

You're sure to spot an antique or two as well.

Yesterday's cooler, rainy first day of autumn is merely a rehearsal for what will arrive soon enough in Minnesota.  So far, the lack of September cold and frost has delayed our fall colors.  If only there were an application one could fill out to preserve these warmer temperatures.

So as my title promised the next photos are old fences from many autumns ago, and are on a worthy antiquing trail as well.

Abandoned Saloon in Winton, Minnesota

You must look real close on the left and the right side of this abandoned building to see the fences.

Building was built on Main Street, Gemmel. Minnesota

Thanks for stopping by. Happy trails and good fences to all.

"The wide world is all about you.
You can fence yourselves in,
But you cannot forever fence it out."

J.R.R. Tolkien

Nice pics, Karen!

I just remembered I took a black and white pic of a rose by a fence, but forgot to put it in today's post. I'll save it for another.

I like the metal fences (until it is time to paint them, but in the dry desert, that isn't as much of a problem as in humid Savannah).

Very nice fences. They look great in BW. I also liked the abandoned buildings and fences.

Those wrought iron fences always look so elegant, but the rustic fences are great too, everything has it's place.

Lovely shots and quotes, as always. I particularly liked the Ray Bradbury one and may use it myself in conversation, if that's OK with you...
