Thematic Photographic #188 Lights On

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

Our theme for this week is "Lights On"  and brings forth a path well lighted, or so we might believe at first glance.

If you want to play along with Carmi's, Thematic Photographic" at his "Written Inc." blog please just go here

http://writteninc.blogspot.com/2012/03/thematic-photographic-188-lights-on.html

"Truth, like the burgeoning of a bulb under the soil, however deeply sown, will make its way to the light." - Ellis Peters

LIGHTS ON, camera, action please begin......

Things and places are not always as they seem, or what they are labeled, are they?

Inside this store they sell "Hats" an unbelievable selection too.

Lights on, can be a mysterious case of "Boxed lighting"

Is this what many patio owners wish they could display, but sadly most don't?  This was taken inside Ridgedale Shopping Center Mall, in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

If you skip the Costco and big boxed stores and venture into the exclusive more trendy shopping centers like below, they offer an artsy touch to their selling approach.

At the "Galleria Shops of Distinction" Edina, Minnesota.

What could be better than roaming the quiet and deserted streets of Cannon Falls.  This is shortly after all the shop owners have closed up for the day, and just for those of us who enjoy strolling by, they have left the

Lights on for us!

It's always a good feeling of comfort when into the darkness we may roam to later discover, someone has left the lights on.

One last thought for this lights on theme
I had a little lights on discovery this last week with one of my tires that continued to leak air.

It's fixed!

No more warning messages flashing on my dash....so far as yet anyway.

Thematic Photographic #184 Curved

THIS IS A THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC POST

It's only natural that certain curves attract us more than others, like here.

Can you guess by this photo what Carmi's theme is this week?

Did I hear, curved?

Carmi, from "Written Inc. Blog" has taken a "curve' around the corner away from pairs and offered "curved" as our TP theme this week!  Mighty fine curve he posted too, check it out!

Being thrown a curve isn't always pleasant, unless the curve is as cool as our winter this year.  The photo below, shot in January 2012.

Along our way, we often meet a curve or two, but aren't those the unexpected interruptions which make our journey most memorable?
I think so.

Isn't it almost silly that normally I'd be fighting snowflakes and these walks would be so snow packed that I'd be standing on a snowbank for this recent photo?

Another photo in late January 2012.....
Just what is it with winter this year anyway?

With weather like this how can anyone have a gloomy day, right?

...and yet, even through all this melting process....the sun seems to always be hiding somewhere.
...and all you winter lovers don't worry with every bend or curve you take you can land on ice, if you walk far enough.

Just leave your vehicle on the road!  Please!

After an old friend from high school viewed some photos I posted on FB from last Sunday his response was,  "Where's all your snow?"

Well, they say it's coming tonight actually......

...and it fell, making the morning commute not as speedy and carefree as normal.  But already by this afternoon it's slipping away!  Again, this recent snow shall pass quickly.....as winter is toying with us and sending us from one curve to the next...spring today, winter tomorrow....
Truthfully, I'm enjoying every mysterious moment of what will today be?
It'll never throw me a curve that I can't handle!

I just wish it would throw in a few more sunny days!

Sometimes, I forget what my shadow looks like, haven't you?!

It's a long slide down the curve of this steep hill.....but it can be done......just on the other side......!

If you want to curve through other curved posts or care to bring your own
please just go here

the more the better!

Thematic Photographic # 183 Pairs

THIS IS A THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC POST

           FOR "PAIRS"

                          Some pairs are planned

Like sharing a private toast between old friends.

While other pairs are unexpected.....

This pair of hands accidentally got in the middle of my picture taking.....funny why I even saved this photo.  Guess it came in handy by chance.

Another surprise was capturing this pair of strangers....
sitting directly behind me.

While I was sitting in this audience I wanted a view of the crowd that assembled.  So without turning around and merely holding my camera to the side I snapped this photo.....I think the woman on the left saw my camera pointed her way.... was she lost in thought or ?

So how about pairing something up too?

Please go here

Thematic Photographic # 182 Groceries

THIS IS A THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC POST

GROCERIES  is our theme for this week.... and you can shop for more here

http://writteninc.blogspot.com/2012/02/thematic-photographic-182-groceries.html

So let's head to the grocery store....

            Are you thirsty?

Please, take your pick.  A fine selection indeed!

Look, I can see myself on this floor!

Grocery shopping, where every stop can be an adventure...depending on what you're looking for....

                         Lobster tonight maybe?

Enjoy your swim today....because the next water you meet....will not be so delightful!
Do you know what one lobster said to all the other lobsters?
"Oh goody boys, we've been saved.  She passed us up!"

Do you have dinner in your thoughts, that don't include taking home live choices?

Maybe you don't need something for dinner tonight......
Possibly, you crave something a little more.....

.....sweet?

There are so many to pick from........

Yet always, only a precious few get selected of course....

.....and I only shop for these items when I'm by myself.... ha ha!

So many choices, so hard to decide.  So you go home empty handed, only to wish later that you had picked something!

The important rule to any shopping adventure....is to enjoy yourself..... right?!

A future grocery shopper in training.

Thematic Photographic # 180 Movement

THIS IS A THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC POST

"Movement"     has literally blown in from Carmi's blog, Written Inc.  and his unbelievable capture of a flight (powered with grand-old-fashioned landing gear) is one you don't want to miss!
Check it out here

http://writteninc.blogspot.com/2012/01/thematic-photographic-180-movement.html

Let the Movement begin

A la bonne heure..... In Good Time

Today, the movement in traffic was a much better drive, compared to yesterday morning...

Then right in the middle of a normal day....movement can take us in directions we never thought we'd journey.......

Sometimes, like a wedding shower our movement takes on a new twist.

Like this

As in the bride-to-be and maid-of-honor both blindfolded and given a chest filled with "household items" to dress the bride with!

it's a new age movement....!

back to the basics with necessary things.

and yes, of course that's a potholder on her head!

and

at this point the begging began, "Please don't post this to Facebook!"
Like I said, new age movement!

Movement of the howling wind and blowing snow outside
tends to move a person inside...
yet craving for the outside
you move toward

Some of the coolest movement in water known to man

and beyond their beauty...

at the very sound of another voice,

they will change their movement, immediately.

Is it food they seek?

Or companionship?

Then on another rare movement
you are lucky enough to catch

Minnesota (and for a short while the Big Apple NYC)
very own Garrison Keillor moving along
eating a Corn Dog with mustard
before his show at
the Minnesota State Fair
where else?

If you're wondering yes, he's moving in Red Shoes like always.

In fall we had a real surprise movement come to town...

When a stranger with horses moved in.

Movement
can free us from just another evening at home
eating the usual....served in the usual manner
Do you feel like having someone else do the cooking tonight?

Me too!  I just caught the tail end of this....trying to eat and snap at the same time...not so good ....he did amazing things with his knives, but it's what he did with the eggs that will bring us back again.....well that and the FOOD!!!!!

Thematic Photographic - 179 - Glow

January can offer a blander view of things......

So I invite you to visit Carmi's blog at

http://writteninc.blogspot.com/2012/01/thematic-photographic-179-glow.html

for a glowing experience.  Our theme this week is  " Glow"

"The glow of one warm thought, is to me worth more than money..." I believe this, and Thomas Jefferson gained fame by quoting this.
The glow of warm thoughts - could fill this empty room with cheerfulness- and not everyone will notice......but yet, it leaves you with an inner glow......... long after you've gone..... it's,
"Your very own secret...." treasure it.

I really enjoy a quiet walk on a dark and cold evening......especially if I stumble upon ....

A glow of colored lights......JUST WAITING FOR ANYONE!   Stop and enjoy them.......  somebody left the lights on just for you......

Even after some places close for the day (like the enchanting deli above)...yet an afterglow radiates still....long after the doors were locked ......

As does the memory of a sad movie.....which also lingers on......bitterly......leaving a simple thought of why?  For me anyway.   What were they thinking to leave the strongest feeling of deep sadness, when there were so many other feelings to expound upon ...... that's my interpretation of the film.... The Descendants, you'll have your own.

So, throw back your scarf and run across the snow-less street and bask in the biting cold across your face and keep running all the way to a wide awake cafe screaming with delight......after all it was just another movie............

Imagine this, left all alone is one empty table anxiously waiting for it's next glowing conversations.....of idle chatter and extreme laughter, and it's a window seat on a Saturday night!

but it's not going to be empty for very long...... ha ha!

Thematic Photographic # 178 After Dark

Welcome to a new THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC POST
For 2012
Carmi, from Written Inc. blog is lighting up our theme with

"AFTER DARK"...and I promise nothing too risque'.

Maybe just a quiet stroll outside and through our neighborhood we shall go....

Too bad, another After dark, snowless, quiet evening far too windy for a fire........
yet a fine evening for
a fairy tale
or two......

Our walk wouldn't be complete, if we didn't venture through what appears to be a castle wall on this dark and not so stormy night.....

What do you think we'll find at the end of this walkway?

Surprise! Did you hear their howls?  Shall we get a bit closer?

This lone wolf seems more interested in just making a new friend...while the others....in the pack.....

Are taking a break from determining who will hold the alpha title....by grabbing a snack through the pipe. Just like a bunch of pups!
Okay, did I hear you say you were getting cold and needed a ride?

I have just the perfect road trip in mind.

If you find yourself (like we did last Saturday night) ready for an evening road trip to (some place new) and it's already after dark, no worries! Besides grab your camera because I know we'll find something incredibly cool to shoot...... like this extremely large....

                                         SPRINKLE CAN
                                          or watering can....

How would you like to close our after dark adventure with a favorite after dark shot of mine from my last visit to Chicago?

Using my "Whimsical Flick" mode on my now defunct camera, I not only captured after dark, but strangers and brief inside views (behind me) "Oh Chicago...you are my kind of town, Chicago...especially after dark!

After dark..... "One who roams the channels after dark, searching for buried treasure. "  Harriet van Horne

...if we don't search we'll surely never find.....

If you haven't had enough after dark yet be sure to check out all the others as well, and Carmi is always looking for new additions too...so why not post some too!

Thematic Photographic - 177 favorites

Thematic Photographic, on Carmi's Written Inc. blog is featuring "favorites" right through New Year's week...

Do you know what this is?

It's not a truck, or a plane or ............

It's a Train! This is a favorite of mine for a number of reasons.  My first ride on the Minnesota Zephyr was to treat my mother for her birthday.  Just the two of us.  Sadly, the many times I've been on it, or gave gift certificates, the company went out of business......

On a road trip to southeastern Minnesota and a walk down main street, I couldn't believe the display in the local photography shop......  I just had to snap this picture... how could I pass this up?

Not that my photo is so great, but do you notice what subjects are being displayed?  I'm sure they're marketing for new business..... Yes, it appears the high school prom girls are center stage...but in all the other photos.... no people....just cows!

Yes, the things that some people do to their automobiles....

"You never really know.  But when they know, you'll know.  You know?" from Finding Nemo!

Shall we meet for lunch at one of my favorite little sidewalk cafes....if you just happen to be in "Old Town, San Diego?"

Of course if you linger too long looking at all the lovely artwork along the way to where I'm having lunch......

Because the farther you stroll the more you can see.....

Inside one of the many shops at "Old Town"...... and I shan't wait all day for you either..... so hurry....

Or, I may be forced to eat and be on my way too......

Starlight star bright, the first star I see....in Old Town will be you......!

If you want to see more favorites, or why not post your own go here

Thematic Photographic 177 - Favorites

Carmi, from Written Inc. is asking for our "favorite" shots of the year.  Ones which didn't reach a theme, but have a story to tell of their own.  Or, something else worthy of being a favorite.

My first offering - will be of stone and glass and woods and water and reflections as just a few of my most favorite things.

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live" -
 Flora Whittemore

What favorite things do you put outside your window?

and strictly from nature.......

The leaves begin to fall, the wind blows, and the pond side still glows of summer's colors, a burst of brightness, before the foliage begins to lose its freshness, as autumn prepares for change, colors fade to gray on this day....

How many days did it take to get here?
