Six Word Saturday - 20 September 2014

A horse of another color, of course.

My intention for this post, on this balmy, over cast morning- is strictly to be funny!

I'm feeling the mood for grooving on the humorous side of life this morning. Must work on my "upbeat conversation mode" in preparation for our annual Midwest Federal Savings and Loan Reunion Luncheon, which begins at noon today.

SIX WORD SATUDAY

Sepia Saturday - Exploring Old and Abandoned - 20 September 2014

Welcome to  Sepia Saturday

While our theme offers adorable little faces, and a most skeptical kind of housing, I'm interested in a bit more sturdy structure.

OLD MANORS and Such

Parlange Plantation Manor House
New Roads, Louisiana

this week for me with SEPIA SATURDAY

"The cities and mansions that people dream of are those in which they finally live." - Lewis Mumford

Every manor should have a unique gate for an entrance.

Of course we must take a peek inside lovely, Rockwood Manor.

Rockwood Manor is a 150 year old estate that has now within a public park facility in Wilmington, Delaware.

How about your own manor, built in 1870 and listed on the Preservation Directory?  This Incredible Gothic Revival Facade could be yours for a mere $16,500.  It's located in Oxford, NY. 8 South Washington Avenue.

This stately manor, the Arlington Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi and built by Mrs. Jane White

This manor is featured on the link provided below.  It is now decaying rapidly and sits abandoned.

Collecting

Collect Moments not Things

It was a moment from The Hounds and the Baskervilles Thursday morning.

Just BE happy!

"I like to do things quickly, because I'm easily bored." - Karl Lagerfeld

Sharing your muscle power for those you love.

We're washing Aunt Cierra's old car here!  You're never too young to wash a sweet ride like this one!  (Painted by Cierra)

"What I like about photographs is they capture a moment that's gone forever.  Impossible to reproduce."  - Karl Lagerfeld

Okay, yesterday would have been my mother's birthday.  It was a day of great reflection for me.

"Memories warm you up from the inside. But they also tear you apart." - Haruki Murakami

Pictured here is my youngest son sitting with my mother.  Sometimes I wish I could turn back the hands of time and change the way we were when I was little.  We struggled horribly, both us of were quite relentless too.  But a delightful thing happened once I became a mother.  She became the perfect grandmother for all my children, and they loved her dearly.   So through all the years that followed until I read her one last story, and she slipped away, we had a perfect relationship just like mothers and daughters should.

You can't get those moments back, but the memories of them live on forever.

If you don't have a special place, find one quickly.  Then thank yourself that you did.

"The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain.  It's the loneliness of it.  Memories need to be shared."  Lois Lowry, The Giver

If you haven't ever read The Giver, you should.

Good Fences - #26 - Entryway

GOOD FENCES

Welcome Ye Olde- Entryway!

I like arriving early, before the crowds flock the entryway.

Once we walk through this gate, we escape to another time, quenching our thirst for history.
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." -  Soren Kierkegaard

A stone's throw away to paradise,
awaits in your own space.

"Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else." -  Tom Stoppard

Ah yes, we heard their giggles first, even over the noise rising from the football fields behind us.  We knew what was hiding behind this fence.

Secret Garden- Enter here.

"For the entrance is low: we must stoop till we are no taller than children to get in." C. S. Lewis

Entryway, or rather an opening to the Gateway of beauty within the picturesque Black Hills of South Dakota.

"You seldom, if ever, get lucky sitting down." - Zig Ziglar

Autumnus

Welcome!

Please join me while I survey what's left of summer, with a dash of autumn settling across Minnesota ever so gently.

It's always time for rustic metal sculptures.  Suitable for all wind and weather, summer or winter, spring or fall it's always time to celebrate art.

Still holding on!

Just today, certainly not my last mow of the season, but almost.

Yes, as a matter of fact, we have fairies in Minnesota, and other Wee Little Creatures, that also need their own quaint little village.  One such place is just a sprint away from their own Apostle Islands on the south side of the pond.

Once the State Fair comes to a close, Football begins.

Don't chase the ball so long that you lose sight of your surroundings!

Devious plan, that's what it is when autumn attacks my poor little edibles with an early frost.

It just wouldn't be autumn unless there was a gracious and plentiful harvest to last all winter long and of course,  Minnesota's wild turkeys.

In closing-
It's quite surprising with the colder temperatures, and yes frost has fallen several times, and yet it's still a vibrant greenery all around, and just a mere handful of leaves have fallen so far, as yet.

Life is Great!

I hope this is the ending of the hint of winter beginning in so many of our worlds this week.

Can I Make You Laugh

What makes you laugh?
(think about it and please share)

This not a test, it's a quiz.

How does this photo below make you feel?

You may think he's sad, but in reality, he's just hanging out, according to the artist that designed him.

Photo from October 2012
The sculpture Companion (passing through) by the artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly) at the Modern Art Museum Fort Worth, Texas photo by Carol Highsmith

For me, someone falling down and getting hurt, emotionally or physically, isn't funny.  How can pain, or humiliation ever be funny?  What makes me laugh or at least smile, is something like the photo below.

Pre Quiz Question- "What has to be broken before it can be used?" (answer at the  bottom)

How about this very creative, artful piece?

Imagine that you just happened upon this.  Did it make you smile?  I know you'd be worried if you've had a couple too many at the local pub, and you're stumbling around not sure if you're seeing double or just having trouble finding the road.

This little guy is a riot!
Somebody has a good sense of humor.  Could you pour me a cup too please?

From a human perspective this is funny.

How about that quiz I promised?  Thought I forgot?

As promised this is not a test.  It's a quiz, in fact there are two.  Take your pick, or try them both.  You can post your results on Facebook, if you dare.

So, do you want excitingly, defining and exhilarating fun?  Or, some scholarly-learn-about-me fun?

Either way, both are very short.
