Its a European Grey Heron, Karen, though I must say the feathers can look bluish! We don't get other sorts of herons here, though we do get egrets, which are a variety of heron, only white!

I just hope your chicken did not lay those eggs. How many feathers would be needed to feather that nest?
This post brings back memories. I was fishing with my daughter in a small boat on a mountain lake years ago when a huge Golden Eagle swooped down right over us for a good look. I could not believe the wingspan on the creature. I'll bet those eggs could be hers.
