Thematic Photographic #301 - Dirty

Carmi's challenge this week is something I find happens a lot during the summer.  Like on visits to the beach (as his photo depicts) or gardening, and mowing, or just simply chasing rain showers, dirty becomes what we are.

DIRTY

Normally I don't search for photos like this one from last Saturday night at the parade, but I'm happy I caught it now.

Once the horses join the parade, the pooper scoopers are quick to arrive by their trusty Golf Carts.  Did you notice the Lakeville RED snow shovel for horsey poop?

I shot this last fall (a whole series) and I've been saving them on my phone to use for that perfect something.  I claim Dirty as just the right place for it!

So pull up your rugs, check your trunk, look in the sink or the tub or the pool and snap something "dirty" and bring it here.

The Mag - 228 - 13 July 2014

"I keep my own personality in a cupboard under the stairs at home so that no one else can see it or nick it."  - Dawn French

UNDERNEATH
IT ALL

Beginning upon, hidden masses of under-spoken parquet floors
forever stamped by woolly staircase, packing my heedful
woes, climbing by perfect aim, never to stumble upon
the worn frayed edges of our last days together.
This once ever striking fifteen step staircase
now in unpredictable dregs of  Skid Row
Just try going up a down staircase
if you will.

Sunday's Mini Challenge: Claribel Alegria 13-July 2014

SUNDAY'S MINI CHALLENGE:  CLARIBEL ALEGRIA

I've taken the challenge of affirming, Claribel's "Rain" poem with my own.

RAIN

I hear
 metaphysically washes
all the raindrops of
yesternights
streaming
 upon earth's soaking spine.
Each soothing raindrop
endless
driblets
one by one
unearthing all that was
and lies within.
As the falling rain
beckons
cleansing evermore
waking grappling senses
reaching
a quelling end
to yesterday's passages.
Swimming
in a reedy lake
 fog lifting
in lore's unmentionable
gleaming
by utter masses
of longing.
All in an afternoon 's myth
of woes
gone by
pushing
reeling
and forsaking.
Splashes of mud soaked puddles
accepting more.
As the falling rain
curses one more splash
against my thirsty tongue
in the pounding aftermath
of paths
unknown
in silent
falling rain
drowning senseless pain
refreshing morning
awakening
this day
I crave you
forever more.

It's your gentle touch I miss the most.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - 13 July 2014

It's a hot time in the summer time for this week's hunt!

Our clues in one sentence.

this one green rhubarb plant outside screams,
summer in a healing fashion." - quoted Mr. Rhubarb

SUMMER

Always summer fun in and on water!

Sepia Saturday - 236 - 12 July 2014 Gone Grooming?

All I really want to do, is go to a garden party!

But the rain has ruined that. Again.

Hop in and journey along with me and

It seems we've been invited to a day out for
GROOMING!

Not so sure you can still obtain a shave or haircut here today, but you'll find folks in costume sharing stories about it.

Thank you Alan, for arraigning a day out for us all
at the spa or beauty/barber shop, or Salon as the case may be.

Not so sure about this photo below for good advertising,

She may need a dentist? Vicinity of Huntsville, Texas, beauty shop advertisement.

My kind of Saturday rarely begins at the salon or beauty shop, it has, but what really works for me is to attend

a garden party!

Sadly, as the photo below depicts, some folks just can't enjoy a true garden party moment.  They should have gone to the barber's shop.

July 1941. Information on photo here.

No matter if the garden party is

small, and inside a wee, tiny little house,
or outside in the center of a crowded place

It's always very entertaining.

If you didn't click on Garden Party, listen to it hear.  Guaranteed to please you.

Six Word Saturday - 12 July 2014 Let's Get Sticky Together

What unknown thing has you stuck?

Do you know what A113 means?
Learn some things, just for fun!

Don't you just hate, inside jokes, when you're out of the loop?

We all have our own stickiness!
Embrace yours.

"Welcome those big, sticky complicated problems.  In them are your most powerful opportunities."
 -Ralph Marston

I'm sticking to dreaming day and night.

Dream.
Dream BIG.

Alphabe-Thursday - 11 July 2014

Once the world around us induces our hearts to madness and we shudder, we must pack up our dreams and retreat into our own little magical imaginative lands.

ALPHABE-THURSDAY

Jenny's assignment this week is the letter H.

Here we stand, upon contemplation in exchange of ark to rocket, could this possibly be life today on Planet Eris?

HIPPOTIGRIS

Only Survivor of

Planet Eris will be reality,
One day
In the 26th Century.

This trans-Neptunian object
of our imagination
is boundless
and more massive than Pluto.

In body orbiting beyond
Neptune
spawned by Roman
god of the sea.

All human hopefulness overriding
the emptiness of obscurity
enriching melancholy emotions
something that is uniquely
our own to depict.

This new dimension into mankind
emerges triumphantly
in dazzling existence
offering optimal conditions
for being alive
from the far reaches
below the bottom of the sea
and beyond.

Planet Eris has spoken
in uninhibited uniqueness
preempting
drooped sadness
and so watered
we rise blossoming like unwatered flowers
minus gloomy conclusions
of those that have not sailed.

Oh muse of play
beyond the endless sea are we.
Overpowering expressions
stinging
magnificently beyond
all obstacles
from within one's own
emotional corner.

The Potential of Creativity
and life itself is
Contained within us all.
So we begin again.

Good Fences - #16 - Meet Me at the Landing

How about a 19th Century Field Trip with me?

Over the Fourth of July weekend we went to Murphy's Landing in Shakopee, Minnesota, aka as The Landing in recent years as part of The Three Rivers Park District- Minnesota River Heritage Park.

1857 Farm originally owned by the Berger Family and was located in Jessenland Township near Henderson.  The farm consisted of six hand-hewn log buildings, a two-story log cabin, double-bay horse barn, granary, chicken house, cattle barn, smoke house and of course many fences.  Every garden was fenced.

Rare breed of pigs originally from England still live at the 1889 Farm originally owned by the Ryan family and was located between Henderson and Green Isle in Sibley County, Minnesota.

BEWARE of In Coming, Flying Beasts.

Back in those days, they took many precautions to keep their chickens safe!
The roping insured that vultures and other chicken eating creatures couldn't snatch the farmer's chickens.

The padlock serves to keep today's mischievous intruders away as well.

Sturdy is as timber creates!

Of course every farm had their own Herb garden right?
I just wonder if they put signs up like this one?

Seems around Murphy's Landing nearly every house
in town owns a white picket fence.

At the Local General Store- also served as Post Office and gathering place for visiting and perhaps a game of checkers.

Locally made rails 15 cents lb. and Many types of Barb Wire were often on sale.

Random city garden and picket fencing.

A man who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman,
A man who works with his hands, his head and his heart is an artist!"

Word List for July - 9 July 2014 - for Imaginary Garden and Real Toads

Greetings all toads and other creatures, walking or flying as the case may be and my post for

I'm linking to their Word List for July, where one word was plucked from the last ten prompts.

Our challenge is to use at least three of these words and put it to a new poem.

The words are
fresh, burst, defy, chain, struck, forward, exchange, customary, prefer and close.

For me, my garden of wits and words today travel upon the wings of an art piece of mine, in need of a poem or two.

Hippotigris Lands on Planet Eris Year 2562

Oh mystical creature
Mister Hippotigris
of Planet Eris
aren't you just a Zebra?

I was utterly struck
by your gregarious bark,
 braying and snorting
of our recent greeting exchange.

Neither moo-moo or neigh
but oh, so highly pitched.
Is that customary
from your Planet Eris?

Oh my, are those your teeth?
Or just another desirous
exchange of your home's port of call
on Planet Eris?
So soon before the Duchess of Eris Ball
begins?
Surely a most unusual, brilliant affair
of numerous animal fares.

I burst forward
if you so prefer
in close customary
conjunction
by deeply peering into my crystal ball.

You're without a leash or chain
and no further bark or brawl
but steadily grazing
among fresh bloomed iris
and juicy ripe strawberries
not to defy
logic by any fellow commentaries
just Planet Eris straightforward.

Note: The Mister Hippotigris hid silently behind the tall timbering greenery, to be seen at a later date.

The Mag - 6 July 2014

What your mind knows, your eyes can't always see.

Tess Kincaid has delivered a fire-cracking photograph for our prompt this round.

SAM THE CAT

Young Gideon I'll be damned.
You always had a cozy way
of cradling a cat
even a stray.

It's senseless to read your mood
your shuttered eyes of black shields
shares my reflection -
And yet
Exposes you not.
How rude!

Your head's somewhere else!
It's always that way-
With you.
I'm dumbfounded. All clammed up.
Your wide open stare
screams a peculiar stiffness.

And yet
I long for your breath
On the back of my neck.
It's madness
I know.

I care for you-
Beyond the depths
Of friend or foe.
Snappy synopsis -
You dig me too
I know.
As for you, Sam the Cat-
Scram for now!
Gideon is all mine -
for now.
