Okay, our family vacation fund was depleted.  All the neighbors were gone to exciting places.  I felt so bad for our sad little crew.  Until  I found this little letter to my mother.



Dear Grandma!
You'll just never believe what I have to tell you!


Believing is Having.

Joey, Bobby and I wished very hard to go camping!  Okay not here.  Daddy put up a tent in the backyard and made a camp-fire too!  Then he and mommy ran around (we acted surprised) like bears outside our tent!

Then, do you remember taking us here?

Mommy made this sign so we could pretend we were in South Dakota with you and grandpa again!

Look at our new laughing cowboy, whose HAVING so much fun with us!

Wait! There's more!

I just wanted to say we're having the best summer together, hope you can come over and roast marshmallows with us too!

SEPIA SATURDAY

Big business - the gossip mill, early in the morning.  But who's pushing baby?

Welcome back Alan, and it's wonderful to have you back for this week's theme!  Although, Marilyn (Little Nell) has done a perfectly awesome job of keeping your blog afloat!  

 Our theme is one I know by sight but I had no idea what a pram is!

Thank goodness for photos.  Over here, the most frequently used term is stroller, or baby carriage, and often baby stroller.  Today it seems that not just babies go for rides, but they actually sell strollers for dogs and cats as well.  So when I found this photo I had to share it!

I'm so purr-fectly beautiful in my stylish stroller and bonnie bonnet!

One of my most favorite poems about babies and has hung on my wall until I loaned it away - will fit nicely here today.  The poem is the work of Ruth Hulburt Hamilton.

Mother, O mother, come shake out your cloth,

empty the dustpan, poison the moth

Hang out the washing, make up the bed,

sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?

Here she is!

Ha! ha! I just had to add this photo for this line. Even though it's not Sepia!

She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue.

Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby too.

Dishes are waiting and bills are past due.

Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew.

And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo

But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo

Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?

Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby too.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow

But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.

and grow up and leave home all too soon!

First, you'll see them off in the park with make-believe babies of their own

before they grow up and go off on their own!

So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!

I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep!

Our theme this week is trans - port - ation!

Thank goodness for the people that value our means of transportation and discover the importance of putting it on display for all the world to view.

From within the Science Museum, South Kensington, London.

Transportation, isn't always about the ride/vehicle itself, but more about the journey and what's right at your closest touch!

Some of my most interesting transportation around London (besides my feet) was going on tours!

Ah yes, London does offer so many flavors of transportation within the realms of sightseeing!

Take a ride on the London Eye, or hop on a boat. Which ever form you take you'll be happy you did!

I'm sharing some oldies, but goodies, some from as far away as the South of France, England and Disneyland.  But, Carmi has tempted the curious side of my photo taking adventures.  Hopefully, I can scoop up a few new "transportation" highlights from around town, and have a second post!


Never fear the unknown - conquer it!

So many means of transportation are waiting just for us!  The prosperous voyage of discoveries is always just around the corner, or just under our nose.

This man has the coolest job don't you think?

Transportation can have it's disadvantages. Especially being stuck in traffic, unless you ignore the mess and gaze out the window......

and appear like a giant flower garden cruising through town!

Gare De Sete

The Railway station serving the town of Sete, in the Herault department of southern France.  It is the eastern terminus of the Bordeaux-Sete railway.

Meet me at the station at half past three.

For me, I have a habit of taking photos of train stations. We just don't have enough in America.

A friend told me once, "You can go any where around the twin cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota, in just an hour."  Imagine how far you can journey on a train, or boat or plane!

In the calm of day - one brother

Thrashing hay everyday - the other brother

Cut the line.

Neither stumbled lightly -  in brutal appraisal

to work the land or flee?

Cradling wheat, or a life of cocktail onions,

and nameless, faceless ambitious people

raising white spires - both pure and naive.

Two brothers long divided -
until this homecoming.
Approaching storm - both lives invisible to the other.

Just over the horizon - through orchard and purple stalks

bursting through masonry walls of memories - long gone.

Two brothers unite in discussion - avoiding angry stems

exchanging trophies and sharing dreams.

Saturday Centus - He said, She said

SATURDAY CENTUS

Jenny, from "Off on my tangent" wants a little dialogue, (about 104 words of it too)with the prompt of "He said, She said." 
so dialogue it will be.  We could split the prompt.


My dialogue (centus) is a true story about a very special and dear friend, and this relationship has continued for many years now.....

He said, She said.

Slowly she began, "I've felt so utterly alone and quite miserable without you."

"Well then, let's share the merry dance together," she mimicked, knowing how he'd respond.

"Every winter I long for our late spring retreat," sighing slightly before she groaned, "It's like I'm shaken to the center of my being without your powerful presence, mowing through my fields of pain and misery."

Pausing briefly before she blurted, "I can't continue to only share summers and early autumn together.  I only feel a sense of peace and tranquility when we're together."

"Do you understand? For now, we could just go boating!"

Day, after day we watch people stroll or run by here.....

Thinking with his legs and itchy feet,

and with his faithful pal beside him, their feet obeyed magnificently to the beat of their hearts...

and with their heads held high into the wind.....

together they were off and running - never to be seen again!

Moral to the story: Never allow your statues to take a run!

3 Series.....

Welcome to the Minnesota Zoo on a bright and sunny Sunday morning.

It's almost as if the mother bison has lowered her head to one side as a gentle reminder to keep her curious baby moving along.

They're both trying to keep up with.....

....father bison.

Just remember even when bison are peaceful, unconcerned, or even appear very lazy, they can attack anything, without warning! 

Although we're pretty safe with these statues!

Fall 2011 -  in San Diego, California.

Just enjoying a rainy day along the California coastline.

We pulled over to view the ocean.

.....and to check out the true locals.

I tell you, they're so friendly out here in southern California that they actually will dance for you!

Even if the rain wasn't about to let up I was still ready to shoot all that I could.

Sometimes, an on and off again rain shower,

feels really good.

Sepia Saturday - Tennis Anyone

My Sepia post is a bit late, as you can see we're spending time by the water with family. Okay, this really isn't us, because we can't drive our cars on this beach!

But in keeping up with Little Nell, who is watching over Sepia Saturday for Alan, even from the sandy shores and open waters, I'm posting something about her lovely topic of tennis!

Welcome to the Tennis - Chevy Chase Club.  Are you signed in?

Greetings, from Miss Desha Allen, during the Tennis Tournament in 1913.

How about those dresses to play in?

Of course there are spectators as well as players.

Besides a great many contestants at the Diplomatic tennis tournament, on July 22, 1922.

Although as wonderful and intriguing as a good game of tennis can be, in the United States this week we are celebrating something quite different.  A celebration which carries quite a bit of surprise and entertainment all around.   We will be celebrating the 4th of July on Wednesday, also called Independence Day!
