Along Every Good Fence

Is something showing off
just hoping you'll rescue it.

GOOD FENCES

All along the fence is something begging to be seen.

Please join me at Pahl's Market.

"Oh, the Thinks you can Think!" Dr. Seuss

It is the nature of garden centers to attract people,
so we may return home and fill our unhurried spaces
that are aching to be reclaimed.

It goes without question that every flower garden
must interrupt the quietness for birds eager to visit.

"A garden is a grand teacher.
It teaches patience and careful watchfulness;
 it teaches industry and thrift;
above all it teaches entire trust." Gertrude Jekyll

"So plant your own gardens and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers." - Jorge Luis Borges

Oh, I almost forgot.  Below is one of the sweet, edible hopefuls I brought home.

Strange Foods We Eat

Now, after seeing our theme of strange foods we eat  and my lunch experience yesterday with first graders I wish I'd taken a shot of their hot food choice of Chicken circles at school! Needless to say, I chose the chef salad. Wisest choice ever.

If it looks like a chicken, it's chicken.  If it looks like something else?

THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC

Also, on the subject of strange foods we eat-
could be, strange dinner companions.

Strange foods we eat are often, just foods unfamiliar to us.

Kale not so strange, unless you're 5 years old.

"Are you sure, we're we can eat this? It doesn't look like salad."

Salad is the word for all green lettuce in their little world!

Kale, for those unfamiliar to it has a sweet mellow cabbage flavor.
(If I serve it to little ones, it's best to chop it up into small bites, it's really tough chewing!)

Who's that peeking over my dish of curly kale?

Good Random Fun

Happy Monday!

"None of the things in life - like love or faith
was arrived at by thinking; indeed, one could almost define
the things that mattered as the ones
that came as suddenly as thunder."
Pico Iyer

THE GOOD

You can imagine how excited I am to
have my waterfall fountain running again.

I'm willing to bet spring has sprung
with absolute staying power this time.

"Look within.  Within is the fountain of good,
and it will ever bubble up, if thou
wilt ever dig."
Marcus Aurelius

THE RANDOM

Random happy moments of being out and about.

Smile for the camera!

THE FUN

The fun for me, was listening to Lyra's Piano Recital.  So many young artists performing,  A most entertaining and relaxing Sunday afternoon.

Lyra and her piano teacher!

"The piano ain't got no wrong notes."
Thelonious Monk

Thanks for stopping by to say hello.  May your week be filled with good random fun!

The Newlyweds and baby too - Sepia Saturday

The last photo relates to our theme of, The newlyweds and their baby, and is  my father's aunt on her honeymoon- and their baby, will surprise you.

Greetings from a few classic wedding days in an old sense, where hopefully nothing questionable, or pervasive will disturb their merry festivities.

Important task at hand-
Combining car logic to newlyweds-
for a road to happiness.

"Always focus on the front windshield and not the rear view mirror."
Colin Powell

Some wedding parties are more concerned with security than looks.

The Owl's Nest is well guarded for this wedding in Wilmington, Delaware July 1, 1937.  Absolutely extreme precautions were used at Owl's Nest home of the Dupont family, following the wedding of Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. and Ethel Dupont.

This photo below is from a private affair, nobody famous, just after a typical a no fuss, no muss elopement ceremony.

Immensely important for a successful wedding is their automobile.
The bride always desires comfort, a spacious trunk and plenty of room for a
 "Just Married" Sign.

On choosing that perfect more appropriate automobile for their special day-
grin and smile you only get one choice.

The groom always insists on design, and fine curves.

"No, no, no. There's no such thing as cheap and cheerful.  It's cheap and nasty and expensive and cheerful."
Jeremy Clarkson

Of course, many newlyweds leave the driving to a chauffeur and any number of fancy and remarkable limousines.

So many last minute details before the groom ushers his bride to their getaway automobile.

Oh those lovely newlyweds and what often seems to be the longest receiving lines ever, as everyone offers their congratulations to the happy couple.

The next photo is as promised for the newlyweds and their baby.  Yes, it's a picture I took at a family reunion of a photo of my father's uncle and aunt's wedding day retreat.  After their ceremony they took their sweet baby, this lovely automobile equipped with their very own trailer hooked on the back.

Happy trails.

Isn't my father's aunt just the happiest bride ever?  Ready to roll on their honeymoon camping adventure to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
By the way, they kept that in use for many years, and I think it just might be somewhere in Michigan still.

Critters - Saturday Critters

"Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though.  That's the problem." - A.A. Milne

SATURDAY'S CRITTERS

The following critters are more than just critters.
They all hold their own uniqueness inside my heart.

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out."
Dr. Seuss

"Oh the things you can find, if you don't stay behind."

Meet my sweet groundskeeper, Monster.

Sadly, he's missing in action.  My heart misses him so much.

My hope is, that a cat lover new to our neighborhood spotted his charm on a frozen Minnesota day and they, being from a concrete city mindset, brought him inside and never let him go.  It happens.

Keep your rolly polly balls hidden,
and your eyes on Rusty.
He can, be a ball destroyer.

I'm sorry, really I am.

"Dogs never bite me.  Only humans." - Marilyn Monroe

Happiness is, a boy his dog and a wet ball
on a carpet of green grass, under running feet.

"A dog is the only one thing on earth
that loves you more than he loves himself."
Josh Billings

"You can judge a man's true character
by the way he treats his fellow animals."
Paul McCartney

Some days are like this.

May your life be filled with as many critters you can squeeze in.
You won't regret it.

Limit- Six Word Fridays

Do we follow too many limits?

I wasn't born to follow trends.

"To put it simply, the world
is such a huge playground sandbox
that we will never run out
of sand or reach the faraway
safety fence of destiny.  So go
out there and play." - Vera Nazarian

I love my own fashion sense!

There aren't any limits for me.

When you make limits to yourself,
you're not yourself anymore." - Sara Keddar

Don't be afraid to be you.

It's true, everyday you are you.

Remember to, wear your happy face.

Good Fences

"Inner space is the real frontier."
Gloria Steinem

"Take me out to the ball park, but first, let me breathe in all the sights."

"But we are not known for our ability to follow through on our unearned discoveries.  We are top-of-the-water adventures, who limit our opinions of the icebergs to what we can see."
John Irving

I spy a Good Fence!

"There are no signposts in the sky to show a man has passed that way before. There are no channels marked. The flier breaks each second into new uncharted seas."
Anne Morrow Lindbergh

I spy a bench, and good fence surrounding Da plane, Da plane!

"Now take me out to the crowd
buy me some peanuts
I don't care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root
for the home team!"
Edward Meeker

You Can Have it All - B and W Wednesdays

Yes, you can.
"You can have it all. You just can't have it all at once."
Oprah Winfrey

Or can we?

On the celebration of Earth Day today, I suggest Good Times out and about this thankful day, taking all her gifts to heart.

Be gentle, be kind.
Leave no traces, only footprints behind.

"But we were wise.  We knew that man's heart, away from nature, becomes hard." - Chief Luther Standing Bear

I never pass up a great leaf.  See how lucky I was to capture this one leaf while strolling about St. Paul, Minnesota one day last fall.

"In every change, in every falling leaf there is some pain, some beauty. And that's the way new leaves grow." - Amit Ray

So many kinds of offerings from our Mother Earth.

Although, most rattlesnakes avoid human contact, and usually avoid wide open, and unprotected spaces.  But, do beware, if you wander about low growing shrubs and rocks, that's their special place to linger.

Logically speaking,
Don't mess with me and I won't mess with you.

Rattlesnakes are among the most highly specialized organisms on our planet.
They say rattlesnakes are most active spring through fall, and often enjoy summer evenings the best,  (just like us) especially as the sun begins to set. But linger not, there's good reason for the saying, as mad as a cut snake, a rattlesnake can never be trusted.

On every visit to my grandfather's place in Arizona, he forever pounded desert knowledge in all of our heads.

Thank you Mother Earth, for our flag stands proud, waving in your wind.

We celebrate sky and clouds, and sand beneath our feet and endless flows of water, appreciating our bounty evermore.

Mother Earth allows us to live and walk on her surface, not the other way around." - Lawren Leo

"I believe Mother Earth smiles when we play kindly with her gifts." - Me

"We return to you, O earth, the things that you have given us willingly and most graciously; with our hearts, hands and minds, in the best way we know how."
Taj Mahal

In honor of Earth Day I say, go out and plant a tree today!

Thanks for stopping by, your visits are always very special to me.
