The Who, When and Where of this are three very important questions. |
We have Sharon from "Save The Photos" blog to thank for this week's theme.
Below is the photo Alan selected and it sets off a flexible-theme ..... headlines aided by the resilient chap (Claude Rains)seated on a remarkably designed chair, that "Bob" another fellow Sepia Blogger located one as well! So many venues to follow.....
Any guesses as to what he may be pointing out?
Fade - In - My Sepia Saturday involves................
An unknown act ........
by unknown characters.
If you look closely, everyone on stage was focused on this one man (third from the left) He is the only person looking into the audience. But why? Go ahead look at the photo above....all eyes are on him......
Read aloud, though alone, and read articulately and distinctly, as if you were reading in public and on the most important occasion. Never speak quickly, till you have first learned to speak well. – Lord Chesterfield (1694-1773). On developing one’s oratorical skills, letter to his son, 9 July 1750 .
Another question I have is in this photo below.
Is this a large letter "A"? Or just an angle of sorts decorating the top of the fireplace? Perhaps it's some sort of meaning for the play that was performed here? |
Does anyone have any ideas? Please share if you do......

Although, the years where January 1 is a Friday there will be 53 weekends.

Such elaborate costumes. No wonder you like this card -- fun to look at.
This is a fun scene, I too wish we knew what the performance was or more detail, we can all fantasize about it at least in our minds and come up with our own play. :)
It looks like a junior production of some sort as they all appear very youthful.I hope you find out more about it.
I like the elaborate costumes and the tapestry on the wall in that first photo.
The triangle looks more like a delta than an "A."
The first thing that struck me was the 'A' except I thought it looked like a warning sign, I think you are right it is supposed to be a fireplace. Bearing Little Nell's comment I wonder if the play is "She Stoops To Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith a popular school choice studying the period AND there appears to be a maid in the picture.
Little Nell and Joy She Stoops To Conquer could possibly be right! Seems the right amount of characters and the costumes are just as one I (Just) googled from a 1902 college production! What a lively tale...and The Three Pigeons Pub in the story sounds fascinating too! great idea, thanks!
From looking at the enlarged picture, I think the A is part of the fireplace, a little like a cooker hood.
How great that you seem to have solved the mystery of the play!
Amazing, I would not have had any credible guess, but it sounds like Joy may have it.
The 'A' looks too modern for the period of the play.Hovever it's the tapestry on the wall that intrigues me. Any guesses as to the scene?
No suggestion to make here,
but nice wigs!!

My first guess was an opera given the orchestra pit. But I think all the men, except one on the far right, are actually women! Very interesting find.
Mike- oh my goodness you might be right about that! I hadn't really noticed that, until now! Amazing!
It Looks Like An English Conservative Party Rally To Me!!
I thought most of the men looked like women, also. Maybe it's a girl's school. If so, it's a pretty fancy one!
