SEPIA SATURDAY
Before the creation of plastic bags, it was all about making boxes.
There are so many sides to boxes.
There are so many sides to boxes.
"Easy peasy!" If I may quote Alan, from Sepia Saturday blog, for our theme this week, and he's right on! This image was shot by one of my favorite photographers, Lewis W. Hine
Have any ideas which direction I may take this?
What theme might you follow?
Alan mentioned one theme could be running wild with extremely long skirts-
But you be the judge? Which do you prefer, long or shorter skirts?
I'm guessing the shorter skirts win!
I'm guessing the shorter skirts win!
"Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away!
Weather-wise it's such a lovely day
Just say the words and we'll beat the birds
Pack up, let's fly away!"
With spring upon us (ha ha) and people's busy schedules, and also, Alan's call for Sepia Saturday posts have more than doubled lately I've decided to
post about short skirts in short form!
Not too much to read either.

"Come fly with me, let's float down to Peru
In llama land there's a one-man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come on fly with me, let's take off in the blue!"
.....and the men go wild. Is that a (Playboy) bunny on those scarves?
Smile everyone!
We could all learn from a Crayola Box of crayons,
some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull-
some have weird names, but they all have learned
to live together in the same box.
As far as fashion goes, you can pretty much wear anything. You can also bet what was popular once will fade away for a time, but it's guaranteed to come back again!

Enjoy your weekend, and remember to keep your eyes open for boxes-
they just may be extinct someday, too soon.
Above is a Drain Box, from building floor drain. Do you suppose it's still in use today?
See you next week!

I guess short skirts always win. Long skirts can be very flattering, especially with a slit on the side!
I like the crayons sitting together, that is a beautiful thought. Never seen a drainage like this one, sure it still works. It was fun to fly away and have a look where the theme has taken you. Now I fly a bit further to see what other sepians do with boxes.
I prefer the short skirts vs. the longer ones. Not short short, just short.
There's some really short short skirts on those stewardesses, that's a bit too short for my liking but did I ever wear mine that short? Only me and about 10,000 customers I used to serve will ever know! lol All in the life of a bartender.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Look at that intrepid photographer going the extra mile to get the shin's eye view of those skirts!
;-)
I think you'll find most box drains these days are made on concrete.
Oh, ya, love those short skirts, but I'm a guy, so...........
happy post!

Thunder- I know and he nearly falls over! Ha! Ha!
A fun post.
Those girls could wear anything they like, AND I WOULD LOVE IT!
I like long skirts myself... I grew up in the 60s with the short ones but I remember I was just thrilled with the long skirts when they arrived on the scene. It was 1970, I was 15 and in the last year of our euqivalent to "junior high", and the first ones to introduce the new long fashion at our school were two girls who just moved to Sweden from Austria, dressed in red shiny coats that touched their ancles. For my graduation a year later I myself wore a long skirt with buttoned (or unbuttoned) front and shorts beneath...
I prefer long skirts which is probably just as well. sigh.
I think short skirts and good rock are the only good things to come out of the late 60s early 70s
I remember the days of short skirts! What a great selection of photos, Karen. I loved the ladies by the plane with their nice invitation to beat the birds. Coffee, Tea or Me? comes to mind also.

Wonderful fashion parade Karen. I remember the short skirts (and hotpants) too but I have to say I was really glad when the maxi came in!
Being a man I'm glad you choose to post about the short skirts! I love the 1960s photos.
While the girls natter about skirt lengths......I found the drain box more interesting. A little research showed me the building is a drying house for rifle and cannon powders. I suspect that current day health and safety legislation has put it out of business by now!
Nigel- I know I was so tempted to go into more depth on the drain box and other delights as such, but I needed a bit more cheer and thought- perhaps other did too- so I went with happy legs! Ha! Ha! but I couldn't delete my drain box photo, and I'm happy you liked it! from the Library of Congress- it is something from yesterday!
Brett - You are so right!
Cloudia- Thank you- that was my goal! Score.
For all the men- who enjoy these fine moments in fashion- just know these and other ladies are out there just to make your day! Ha! Ha!
Little Nell- ah yes the maxi- remember them well!
Kathy- yes another great saying from the fly girl's day!
All those cute outfits are totally making me nostalgic for a time I didn't see.. Perhaps it's time to find me a nice retro outfit :D
Some skirts today are so short you can't always tell they are there. The trend to wear thick tights, jeans, leggings or something similar under them takes all the fun away.
When my daughter was in high school a few years ago, one of the school counselors told me he didn't dare walk up the stairs during passing period.
Loved the nostalgic pics from the 60s.
I wish I'd kept some of my old clothes as like you say they come back into fashion again. Mind you I'd need a couple of sizes bigger now!
I hate short short skirts! I don't think they look good on anyone.
Easy Peasy. A collection of fantastic old photographs, a selection of wonderful short skirts, and you keep this follower very happy indeed.
Thinking Outside The Box ! I Like it.Short Skirts Rule!
Short skirts are definitely more difficult to live in.
A short and colorful ride today!!
Short or long, it only matters on the wearer's shape, and how comfortable they are with it. Some do better with one rather than the other. But both have their own aesthetics.
Fun post!!

A very entertaining post which brought back memories of me sitting in an evening, busy shortening my skirts to appear fashionable!
