"Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things." - Edgar Degas
Woman With A Towel - 1898 - Edgar Degas
Touched by the very depth of Degas,
I move slowly, contently in this new day,
we call the present, by -
Unfolding the mantle to my soul
I disrobe from the ties which bind me.
A seed deep inside me awakens,
sweeping willingness outside my usual me.
Bringing life beneath my sole
seducing darkness into light
for me to rest nakedly, alive in the present.
Touched by the very depth of Degas,
I move slowly, contently in this new day,
we call the present, by -
Unfolding the mantle to my soul
I disrobe from the ties which bind me.
A seed deep inside me awakens,
sweeping willingness outside my usual me.
Bringing life beneath my sole
seducing darkness into light
for me to rest nakedly, alive in the present.

The first quote is awesome, sort of sounds like life in general. When we no longer know what we're doing we tend to figure it out and take our place in the circle of life.
Great writing Karen, you really have a gift, the gift of words!
I like this and had a similar response to the painting. Nice one.
Nice! And I like the Degas quote. Does that also apply to writers?:)
As I have told you before, I have been thinking of joining in on The Mag fun, but after reading your great piece, I think I may have to do some more thinking about it. For what I would have contributed would have been, "I noticed that she had a really nice rack when she slipped the towel from the bar." Nope, nothing else came to mind after that. Still nothing.
Nicely done! :-)
Aloha
Jerry, you completely make me laugh, right here at my desk, out loud and I know anyone listening is probably wondering what in the world?! Remember all takes/thoughts/feelings on the prompt are so invited at the Mag!
Unfolding the mantle to my soul...mm...nice line that...very cool response...
That's a great first line. Set the scene perfectly.
Great post! :-)

ditto on darlin's comment--that was my thought exactly!
Beautiful writing Karen, more insightful that the Degas. Edgar Degas was infatuated with the female form and his thoughts were probably closer to Jerry's ( and mine) than yours. But look, at least he has inspired some great writing on your part.
Steve- Thanks I really appreciate your comment!
Darlin and Galen - thank you so much! These photo prompts really entice me!
Yvonne - I'm sure it does!
Grand and stylish; beautifully done.
This was indeed a present, thanks Karen
Nice one...thank you...
Really enjoyed your take on this, Karen. A most interesting interpretation of the prompt...and well done!
=)
Sue- Thanks, that means a lot to me, coming from you, one of my most favorite poets!
I like the line: I disrobe from the ties which bind me
