ON THE LINE
There was the day
you could judge if you may
your neighbor's way
by the clothes on their line.
Our laundry hung on the line
underwear and all.
T-shirts that swore
how dirty you were
or weren't by day.
Our laundry hung on the line
exposed our close kept secrets
every single day.
We kept track of who
had clothes on the line.
Or who
may have moved away.
If you were
a clothesline detective at all
you knew the every who
and what of everyone's day.
Today, not so much the case
as most laundry lines-
dirty business and all
are kept inside
are kept inside
and off the line
outside.

yup, i remember those days. we always hung sheets and towels on the outer lines and kept the 'delicates' on the interior ones to 'hide' from view. :)
For me the second washing line is the best.

I always hung my sheets on the line, I loved the way they smelled. I have not done that in years and would NEVER hang the bloomers out to dry!!!

Until I was in 2nd grade, we lived in a Virginia suburb with a big yard. I'd forgotten about the clotheslines full of clothes for mom, and dad, and us kids!

You brought back clothes line memories to me!! Billowing linen with middle line hidden! Not that there were holes in our undies!!
and in some neighborhoods clothes lines are not allowed...guess those folks must have lots tohide! nicely done!
