Keeping animals at zoos for you
and for me is purposeful!
They serve a vital learning experience,
so treat them well, as you
would any animal you may meet.
We know the reason for zoos!
To serve, protect and nurture all.

you white with black stripes today?"

i like the changes zoos have made to create as natural habitats as possible.
Great visit to the zoo, Karen. I love the Zebra, especially. It reminded me of a friend of mine who shaved her black dog, in a striped fashion, and nicknamed it a Zebrador.
Have a Great Weekend!
Peace :)
I love zoos but always feel a tremendous guilt when I visit one. Nice images, zebra are actually brown and white, I didn't believe it either but I learned it on a safari ride in Florida!! Have a great weekend!!

If not for zoos we would never know how truly awesome these animals are and what we can for them to improve and protect their natural habitat.
I am ambivalent about zoos. They (now) do some wonderful work, and there are many animals which will not survive without them. Often because of human actions. Just the same, an animal in the wild, stirs my soul much more than a caged one.
Last one is wonderful.
I like your choices, K!

Thankfully, zoos have improved but I still am a bit sad to see animals confined.
Black and white photos of zebras are a great idea!
;-)
I get very emotional when I visit zoos I find. Particularly places like Sea World.
Wonderful post and I love the images. The hippo and girafee are some of my favorites. The zoo's are great to help keep animals from becoming extinct. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
I like the way some zoos today have gotten away from bars of any kind & instead have you look down on the animals from above on as natural a setting as can be created for them - safely away from poking fingers and mindless teasing.
I like visiting free-range zoos rather the standard variety, although the latter can be ok if money is spent improving the animals' encloures. Seeing them pacing up and down on concrete behind barbed wire is pitiful!
Love that last pic, Karen!
I am working away from home and somewhat confused after far too much chateau huit du not very good. But I liked the old photos and know a terribly bad joke about a donkey that ended up with a zebra and struggled over the pyjamas...
Great vintage photos! Love your shots as well!
Always a treat to see what images you have chosen for us. We all love animals too so I declare it a winner on all counts!
I'm a fan of zoos. I know people who believe it's wrong to keep them in cages, but as one previous poster noted, without zoos we wouldn't know about some animals. Not all of us will get to Africa or Antarctica. Zoos also help prevent extinction and preserve the species. Go Zoos!!
The hippo one just makes me want to cry. Stuck in such a small enclosure. It's why I stopped visiting zoos. As a child I did love the National Zoo in D.C. where I could see Smokey the Bear. But while in college I had to visit a local zoo near my art college and it broke my heart. I didn't go to a zoo again for decades until once again visiting the San Diego zoo.
