Good Fences Small Town Escapes

Welcome to

Small Town Escapes

From an old gold rush town

you can walk among old tombstones at
Old Hillside Cemetery
on the steep lower slope of
Boulder Mountain,
Silverton, Colorado
(519 acres population in 2010 638
in 2000 only 531)

A favorite pastime of mine
is to check out book sales at the library.

So from my own backyard I'll map out small town escapes.

I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery, air,
mountains, trees, people, I thought. This is what it is to be happy.
Sylvia Plath
Byram man keeps things historical.
Old Burying ground at Byram Shore

"Old cemeteries, like old soldiers, don't die.  They just fade away."
That might have been the fate of the Old Burying Ground at Byram Shore, but
Chris Antonik is keeping it alive!

Taking advantage of no waiting for a seat on my day off, I'll start reading my Small Town Escapes. More to come in later posts!

When you live in Minnesota, and it's autumn, you have to take every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Right in my own little town.

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

Everything!

"Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it."
Mary Oliver

and be safe thanks for checking in with me
see you all, take good care.

There is so much history in an old cemetery. I like the fencing there & also the scene from your own town, nice place to enjoy an autumn afternoon.

We used to love Library Book Sales when we traveled full time in our RV.... I remember Tucson, Louisville, some little town in Alabama, Sineplace in Vermont .... we loved them all.

Some good advice in there. What is it with cemeteries? Is it a sense of our own mortality that makes them fascinating - or just all the stories behind each tombstone? I suspect a little of both. Lovely pictures, Karen.
