 toured the inside.

Our tour guide had no idea how long these lovely plants have been here.

Welcome to the inside.

The Parlor

and only living room area in the entire house.

The formal dining room.
Children were never allowed to eat here, supposedly, and politics and religion was never allowed to be discussed here.  Men only could share their views while smoking in the parlor. 

But, high above the dining room table their children could look and listen through a floor register from an upper floor bedroom.


Hard to believe, and I will "fact check this" later
this doorway leads you to the master bedroom for the Burwell family.
A double curtain with two designs was the only closure to the room which led right off the formal dining room.  It also had a door that opened into the small front entry way.

In all the houses I've toured this is the first one with the master bedroom right off the dining room. Have you experienced this before?

The second kitchen is where the children ate and the family as well when they weren't entertaining.

I've followed the Can You Find These Etchings before, 

I believe there are about 21 or more.

They offer a brochure that explains each one.

one of my favorites.

Farming was the backbone.

The etchings are scattered about this long and winding rock wall.

Some places are thick with greenery too!

Adventures carry us along.

It's a lovely walk through nature, on the Burwell grounds

 and lots of flowers blooming all along the way.

This etching is of Mary Burwell, her husband Charles is on the other side of the iron garden entrance.

Not all the buildings that were on the estate are here today, but many are.

Bring your rafts, canoes, kayaks, etc. if you can haul it in, 
you can float down the Minnehaha Creek with it.
They have a couple picnic tables for your enjoyment too.
You can make an entire day of it out here.

Keep your feet moving
or at least your paddle.
