"We're always attracted to the edges of what we are,
out by the edges where it's a little raw and nervy."
E. L. Doctorow
(Got my camera too late, the stray had moved away from the window to venture out by the pool. She's a bit of a hunter out here.)
With good reason it seems.
Makes Lyra's kitty really anxious to come out and play.
"The action most worth watching
is not at the center of things,
but where edges meet."
Anne Fadiman
Sure there's a bit of open play area but then on the edge of that
Out beyond the fence that surrounds the pool-
Sure there's a bit of open play area but then on the edge of that
is a place where snakes and mighty enormous spiders like to roam.
Oh my! The edge is always out there,
waiting.
Oh my! The edge is always out there,
waiting.
Out beyond the chain link fencing is a creek and beyond that
I kid you not about spiders and snakes, really, seriously.
And
And then along came this
This is a lovely view of
a place where a neighbor's horses run carefree!
You'd think I would have caught them running about at least once.
But no, I never did.
But no, I never did.
This last photo was taken this week in Dover, England by my daughter (my trip to Alabama was so my daughter and her hubby could tour England again and I cared for Lyra)
and Sparkle, and stray cats and snakes and such!
Just kidding on the snakes!
I remember when I was in Dover how beautiful it was to look out over the water with the White Cliffs of Dover along this side and way out yonder, the English Channel. Please send me a photo of that! So she did, and it's even one with a fence! How cool right?!

Such an excellent post, Karen! So great. And the last quote made me cry. I am stealing it of COURSE :)
Love You
Lovely post and photos ~ love the cats and unique fences ~ thanks!
Wishing you a special weekend ~ ^_^
Hello Karen!:) Love your beyond the edges shots, and quotes. That's a one scary looking spider Karen. I think it's great that you house sit your daughters pets, and like the photo she sent you and it's a great addition to Good Fences,...it also brings back happy memories of our stay in Dover.
Remember the song, "I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes"? Those photos made me think of that. Snakes do not concern me. Spiders? Oh, heck, NO WAY. That is a really scary one! What was it? Why was it after that leaf?! Yikes.
Thanks for the adventure. I always love visiting with you. Hugs.
Love any kitty with orange -- and the leaf/bug is terrific!
I like the edges saying. I always say we like to live on the edge without going over. scary sometimes. great images and Waldo wasn't wearing his striped shirt that day. LOL

very cool spider
Scary creatures out on that edge!
This looks like a lovely area - but yikes - that is one big spider!!!! (Shudder)
Beautiful.
Spiders are fine.
Snakes? Not so much.
Amazing photos! You did good.
Regarding the first quote: I tend to like the edges.
I'm so scared for you! I'm petrified of snakes and that's one formidable spider!
I like seeing the fences especially from Dover!
awesome spidey and pretty snake! love the yard and woodsy look, critters and all.
Blimey you had me shivering in my boots at the thought of what was beyond 'the edge' Karen, and then there were both extremely ughy spider AND snake.. it's too early, not Halloween yet 😀 Happy weekend!
i like the pretty natural places, beyond the edges!!! not the spider so much, that's a really creepy spider!!!
Your edge is more exciting than mine. Mine is rather dull. The most I've seen here is a tiny lizard that my cat brought to my back porch.
An excellent post.. though I was little scare about the snake..

Great spider and snake pics, Karen.
As you know, I like them more than some other people.
;-)
So much to see in ordinary things like fences if only one opens one's mind to them.Very much so Karen!

Poor kitty wandering around outside but worse yet for the one inside wanting out to get the one outside. (We have that happen a lot here).
Wonderful scenes beyond the fence and wow that is a huge and creepy looking spider. Not to mention the scary snake. - Nice fence shot from your daughter too. Enjoyed your post very much.
Love your photos and also that last quote ~ Thanks for your visit and wishing you happy week ~
