This is an exciting theme with all the confusion about is it a 'fruit' or a 'vegetable' depending on the usage!  It seems the truth is the seeds, or the ovaries in the base of the flower!


But even then, there are discrepancies, such as tomatoes or bean pods, may fall under the veggie list because they are used in savoury rather than sweet cooking.  

So I begin with something that has become a veggie but began as a fruit.

Any guesses?

What once was a fruit (cucumber), soon became pickled and now mixed with onions, and peppers it has become a vegetable as well!

Oh for the love of sweet delicious home-made pickles...
...Did you know that Cleopatra attributed some of her fascinating beauty to eating pickles?

No confusion here......"veggies!" .....as it is today still growing in the field by the pole barn.....

This batch of rhubarb just grows fancy free and never gets picked...

and while there are some people still gathering what vegetables they can from their gardens..... just today I picked these....

 
and I had a helper...... My special photo of the day........after the picking comes the licking.... or so Monster seems to think!

Monster is worried he may not get any, but does he really want some?

Light is remarkable and too often taken for granted, and playing with light is an education itself.....

This is a great theme because while playing with light, two of my most favorite things happen in every picture taken, reflections and shadows.....

These photos are pretty normal compared to Carmi's theme photo...... but believe me, I had the best of time creating them just for this theme.....

Outside on this bright and sunny afternoon near trees....
Notice the shadow of one lady bell on another....

Outside on the deck, with the bright afternoon sunlight falling in from the trellis and hitting especially boldly on the glass table top even more than the mirror!  Playing with light is amazing isn't it?!

Moving my position slightly, still a bright, sunny day, mid afternoon on the deck, with a trellis overhead.

Time to leave the safety of the deck, hoping Monster (grounds-keeper cat) stays sleeping, (he loves to jump on top of what ever project I'm working on)....silly cat...who had a brief encounter with a certain Mr. Skunk last night......

Outside on a picnic table, it's a sunny afternoon, partially under a shade tree.

Okay bring it all into the house....Monster is waking up.....................! Hurry........!

Shot inside with no electric lighting, just late afternoon sunlight....

Now, I am powerless without my wheels ............

What color is this?  Supposedly it's a three-stage paint, so is that why everyone sees a different color?

Outside in the morning sunlight on what some predict will be Minnesota's last real day of summer.  Hopefully they're wrong!

Is is tan, or champagne.............. Clue:  it's not white or any shade of green metallic.

Parked inside out of the bright sunlight...... and a smidge of electric light.

Is it gold or hold a lot of silver......?

and I don't care what color - just that it takes me from A to Z
and feels dreamy.......!

Our game began with 12 players and right off Joey announced he’d be our mother. Really? Ha – ha! Instantly, Joey’s commands shot out like cannon balls.

“Katie, hop like a frog, Tommy, crabwalk for 21 seconds and then take one jump back, but after he told Sara to take 14 giant steps forward and 14 giant steps back while she sang "A Tisket, A Tasket,” he never told her “Yes, you may or no, you may not!”

There Sara was frozen in her last command of squatting like a frog. So again Sara screamed, “I said, Mother may I?!”

Sepia Saturday # 91 - Saturday 10 September 2011

                This is a SEPIA SATURDAY post

     Our picture prompt from Alan for this week's theme is a photo entitled: "President Wilson on a Speaking Tour" and while Alan mentions there is much going on in his photo the two "Secret Service" men have captivated my full attention.

She was hesitant, while  he continued to press her for specifics, that she was not ready to divulge.
Had perhaps her mockery angered him to a point where he felt belittled by her silence?

These are the two secret service men protecting President Wilson posted by Alan.

Their fixed focus draws me in.

Speaking of photos that overflow with expressiveness....

This post card declares, A Leap Year Frame Up
which leads me to this question.  The tale that followed one single gentleman and three lovely ladies asking for his hand in marriage, on this leap year?
Oh which lady's proposal shall he accept?

If you study this photo very carefully you will notice a man hiding underneath the table.

So, of course we instantly know what this angry man wants answered.

Isn't it funny how one thing can enter your life and invariably it will follow you around for a bit?  I guess for me, it's an Egg thing today!  (If you follow my blog you'll know what I mean) ...anyway while eagles soar, ducklings stumble, owls hoot, and seagulls glide like confetti over top of this Mommy bird tending to her eggs.... everyone please have a stupendously whimsical kind of Wednesday!

Thematic Photographic #161 White (The Egg Project)

    Yes, I'm hooked on Carmi's TP challenge it just opens so many open doors you have to enter.  Last night one of TP's followers, Max (also one of my favorite bloggers) after viewing a few car photos of mine he was reminded of a project in a Photography class he took at the university so he shared it with me.

He was supposed to photograph a white egg on a white background and you could only use salt to hold it up.  So without a doubt I just had to try it too.  Max was right it was loads of fun.  Strangely enough one egg was lost in the process, oops. 

Doesn't this sound like fun?  Well another fave blogger of mine Bob S. also a TP follower has commented that he too will give it a try.  I hope you do Bob!

Here we go .....eggs away!

It's all about the lighting. This table is the color of an egg!


Very little salt .... is the key.

Other than what's outside the window everything is egg shell white, but the lighting can fool you.  Can you see any of the salt holding up the egg?  Well, it's there and if you click larger, will you see it then?


I first tried this last night, but my camera was about to die from it's long use at the Zoo, and the electric light wasn't cool; but a couple of shots I took were awesome in a different way from Max's project....see for yourself!

The Moon Shot!  Created by, low light and low battery?  Maybe, and maybe not.

One more from last night with low light and low battery...

See what I mean?  Time permitting for my own purposes I'll try this again later with better light, and possibly less salt too.....it'd be so awesome (not sure if that's what Max's teacher had in mind) but to see the egg against a white background, (still showing no salt) and have it all in their true white color!

What is happening here?   Thematic Photographic and our theme this week is

My first WHITE photo is of a charming Post Office not too far away.....and hopefully it doesn't get the axe!  Please save snail mail!

This Post Office in Castle Rock is definitely painted a bright white...although some of the other whites may have a different point of view....a lot of white going on here.....even the car is white!

White is a challenge to capture honestly.....especially depending on the light you're shooting in.....Just for TP I shot one photo of a very bright white car this morning (taken from inside the garage!)

A shot by morning light of white is such a delight- but cries of more than white...

Hmmm, looks like a good trunk to pack away all those white things like Carmi mentioned .... they say we shouldn't wear after Labor Day, I too, wonder who they are?!

A dose of afternoon sunshine can change the color of any white car sitting inside the garage

Now it's almost showing it's true color!..but still not the real color yet...

Should we try the outside?
Because what doesn't shine a bit more with a little more light on the white subject?

Yep, I told you it was a bright white!


Moving along to another day filled with fluffy cotton balls...

and while we're on the subject of white as our theme.....let's not forget about the clothes we wear....

Yes!  He's wearing the Clorox shirt!...on his right, she surely doesn't use Clorox, (or the lady behind him!) and the King's Armoury building is spanky white, while the awning is a bit on the dusty white shade......oh so many whites unite!

Then we discover another style of white


Oh, mud castles and frog days

is washed away!

I present for you, Woman Dressed in Tatters, sculpting MUD CASTLES in ...well, the MUD!

At my first glance of the Mud Lady, she's sporting a bit more white than you might believe.....but....

give her a bit more time to play in the mud, just a wee bit later and....

The beauty of dirt and earth, and the highest form of creation ever shaped upon our earth by our own Mud Lady just for you!

DON'T Laugh, this really is relaxing.......and quite adventurous!

I'll close with a real refreshing sparkling, clean bright white.....

I don't know if you were as lucky as where I live.....but the clouds around here were just the biggest draw.......It was tough not looking up all day long .......  Okay some really awesome trees just grew out of no where to be in this photo....

Meet Almond from Lansing, Michigan! 

A dear photo of my Great-grandpa (on my daddy's side) that had disappeared down an endless corridor of yesterday, as a gift from my beloved grandmother handed down to me!

      Time has swept by rather quickly and SEPIA SATURDAY arrives today from a secret find....discovered from inside one of my grandmother Ada's treasure boxes (she had a few) ...... which had been lost for a few years.....Now just for me, an antique daguerreotype with a photo of her father inside, "Hello, and welcome great-grandpa Almond!"

   Oh I have longed for my very own daguerreotype, but never felt I could spare the cost for just anyone....I'm so glad I waited because this one is very dear to my heart, featuring my great-grandpa Almond inside!

     Yesterday, with awakened curiosity and the glint of amusement in our steps we boarded the bus for the Minnesota State Fair.  Free park and ride from the awesome U of M what could be better?  I'll tell you, first we began to feel the obvious pleasures of viewing prize artwork at the Fine Arts Building.  Afterwards, trying Chocolate-covered-jalapenos and also, Sweet-Corn Ice-Cream with warmed blueberries on top ...oh yes.... real blueberries melting over the yummiest ice cream!  Then we were ecstatically happy about following the advice of Mr. and Mrs. Scarecrow.  A single, most swimming sensation of life was tasting this.....BUT!

One with marshmallows on top?!  YuMmY!  Only at the Minnesota State Fair is anything twice as good on a stick!


Oh yeah you've got to live a little......and try many things....

Mr. and Mrs. Scarecrow were right!  Try it for yourself!  Could these lips tell a lie?
